Burl-wood dash bits
I'm looking at a few cars, and I've seen some with burl-wood dash trim. Anyone have any info on the burl-wood? I don't want some vinyl sticker stuff.

They actually had real burlwood dash trailer pieces offered from Porsche back when the cars were new. A $1743 option, only 2 968 cabs were equipped with this rare option.

Perfect, that's exactly what I was hoping for. Info and a pic. Very well done. I'm looking at a car with a burl wood steering accent, and was thinking of getting some for the dash as well.

Another shot, the option code was XL3, dark rootwood dash trailer. You only got the strip along the dash and into the door controls. Nothing on the center console. They did have more wood available as techart options, like the steering wheel, rare, rare, rare.

Not sure if this is factory, but I think it is. The dash would look great with this wheel. It is an airbag, so I think this came as new. Check the int pic.

ummm....no thanks
doc,
That's nothing more than one of those cheap slip-on steering wheel covers. Definitely not a factory option. Enlarge the picture on Craigslist and look at the chrome banding. You can see the original steering wheel where the edges of the slip on stop.

OK, I gave it a shot. At least it's a nice looking wheel cover. This guy is having trouble with his car, and he's going to take it somewhere to get looked at. I'm trying to get him to take it to an indie shop, but it looks like he's going to spend a bunch of money and not get any results for his efforts.

There were no North American 968s equipped with the wood steering wheel. It was a techart option so I'm sure you could order it and have it installed at the dealer. It had the same factory design with airbag. As for NA 968s, they had the dash trailer, e-brake handle, and shift ***** available in rootwood, both light and dark. The shift ***** are more common but still rare.

Wouldn't it be fun to go back in time and order a new 968 with ALL the rare options? Let that be a lesson to everyone buying a new car: order all the weird and rare options for added cool factor.
Take care,

Another example. Rather pricey, but it looks very nice. From the pics, the wood appears in great shape as well as the rest of the car.
