Opinions? For my daughter

Still wary of the tip, but with a good PPI it shouldn't be a problem. My son is in town there, he could look it over.

Looks pretty good to me. I will be in Houston May 1st through the 4th. I know that's a ways off, but I can have a look while I'm down there if you want my opinion. I know MY daughter would love to have one.

She can drive either. She doesn't use a car that much but would like something a bit more stylish and peppy than her VW Golf. The reliability factor has to take most of the mission here, I don't want her stranded somewhere so I'm going to have any car she gets inspected carefully. I'll be doing the belt job right away, and possibly have the trans looked at by a well qualified place in TX.
Wondering now if there's any good independent shops for the tip in TX area.

I would think it would be plenty reliable if well maintained. The manual I think is more fun to drive and sporty feeling, but both work well and, at least in my area, Tips are much less expensive to buy. I don't think the tips are particularly trouble prone.
If the golf is the 2.0T motor it can be faster than the 968 in a straight line with very little work, and for that matter can handle pretty well with a little suspension work as well. I prefer the 968 of course, but in terms of performance the Golf is really pretty respectable.

The Golf is a 2 litre from MK IV, so not the turbo. Also it's an auto so pretty slow. Not a performance comparison, but I'm looking at the long term value of each. The Golf is in good shape except the auto trans is sketchy. Once I put solenoids in it, I'm gonna sell it. The 968 is going to hold or increase it's value over time.

I presume you are referring to the valve body assembly and rough gear changes? I have the same problem in my passat. No more vw's for me, as they are poorly built cars.
Good luck with the Porsche - my 89 s2 has had less issues than the 06 passat turbo I bought new. 968 shoud be a very reliable car if it has been looked after.

Hey Erik, I'm also looking at a 89/90 944 cab. Some have airbags and some don't. I want an airbag only car, and wondering if there's any way to tell other than the int pics.
