Default Black Plastic Piece inside Front of Engine

Hi everyone,

I just got back from my mechanic and mentioned something to me that I hadn't noticed....

Apparently when you open the engine hood, there is a black plastic piece that goes around the front of the engine that apparently has a little compartment in it to hold Porsche working gloves...

On my car it's missing - and want to ask where I can find another one, and what the 'name' of that plastic piece is.

I've included a picture of it from another car and circled the part...

Oh I have a '95 black on black btw...

It may not be missing in the UK at least this was only standard on the earlier cars.

Only a few cars ever had it. Early '92s I think. Mine's a '92 and doesn't have it either. Part number is 944 504 143 00.

I understand it was deleted on NA cars in '94 and '95. My 92 and 93 both have it.

Actually, most of the North American 968s have these (92 - 94.5s). Of the 2,234 coupes, 1,874 had the covers. There is actually 2 covers. There is one in the rear covering some wiring as well. They certainly clean up the engine compartment.

My 94 never had it. I thought it was only available on the 92's and 93's.

Early 94 option code 718 cars have them, later non-718 cars do not. RS820221 is the last 94 to have them, every VIN higher does not have them.

Is there an option code for it, which designates these cars?

Look at the fender inside liner just inside of the coolant recovery bottle, and the coil for a small square tab with a hole in it(body color). This is the receptacle for the locking clasps. If you have these two little square tabs, you can order the plastic cover, and the small clasps from Roger at 928sRUS. Call him at 817-430-2688. He has ordered everything for my 968 at very nice prices. clasp is: 999 590 033 40 q2. There is also two slender rubber seals that go in front for the cover to slide into. You don't need them, but it would be nice to have. If you are truly **** you can order the glove kit as well, PN: 944 722 910 00.

Yes and no. As mentioned, cars that came with these originally have a tab mounted off of the body to hold the covers. You could get a set off of a parts car and mount them (weld, or screw in) or come up with some other idea for holding the cover in place. Some have just let them sit in there.
