Default How to adjust idle speed by myself?

My 968 coupe started to idle at a little under 750rpm. And if I put it in reverse the engine would die sometime. The engine would die occasionally if it's in D and idling at traffic light as well. If it's in P or N then it seems to stabilize a bit. It was idling at around 1000 rpm when i bought it 2 weeks ago and all of a sudden it now idle at a bit lower than 750 rpm.

What is the correct idling speed? Can I adjust idle by myself and how? Or should I send the car to a mechanic?

I simply think it's old and might need minor adjustment to bring idle sped up a bit as it seems that under 750 rpm, it cannot take the load from the tramsmission. Or there are other problem I might be overlooking?

idle speed is not really adjustable. At least not according to the work shop manual.
Try cleaning the idle control valve.
Check spark plugs, wires,etc.
