Cable Ties
I need to replace all of the special cable ties that run across the firewall that hold the wiring harness and battery cables. About half were brittle from age the rest I clipped. I looked at a few of our venders websites and found nothing. Searched the 944 forums, nothing new posted in a couple years. I take it that they are pretty much NLA over here. Any of you guys know a source?
If not I have some 1/2" delrin to make a base that is drilled and slotted to accept a regular old black cable tie. I would prefer to just buy the things.
In case anyone is interested I took some measurements of one of the studs that the cable tie is pressed onto. The diameter is .202 inch or about 5mm. The length is about .310 inch or almost 8mm. The studs actually look more like a sheet metal screw to me with a thread pitch of 1.5mm.
Thanks,
Doug

Don't give up yet - I think someone sells them. I remember seeing the website and a picture of them.
Edit: found it! The thread over on PP: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-odd-part.html
The websites it mentions:
Regular length: http://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...4-PLST30SC-D30
Other lengths: http://www.panduit.com/Products/Prod...e=PLST30SC-D30
Take care!

Looks like Toast has you covered but FYI they are also available from some new car manufacturers through the local dealer parts department. I have some in my desk at work - I think they were purchased from Volvo. I'm in the import car business. I stumbled across them one day in a parts catalog and ordered them "just in case". If you need more info PM me. Hope this helps.

just for a note, those cable ties that hold that harness across the firewall are reusable ties, just take a pliers and just squeeze the middle locking tab even with the two ears and it releases the tie.
But this is good to know there is a source of stud mounted ties.

Many thanks guys! I know we get stuff from Panduit at work. I will check with them first. It's nice to know there are a few sources for those. It's kind of strange tho that they aren't stocked by the usual suspects other than Porsche. I did notice that they did seem to be reusable after I had destroyed mine.
Here's another question. How about a source for the pinkish colored plastic wire clamp about 3/4" diameter that is more of a guide to keep wires loosely out of harms way? There are two that guide the wires from the starter or alternator. One of these clamps definitely plugs onto a hole on the underside of the intake manifold. There is also one holding some wires in the front of the engine above the water pump. I had checked with the local Porsche dealer and was told they were NLA and that they used a new type of cable tie that snaps into the existing hole. The dealer didn't have any spares so I just used a regular black cable tie. I found them from a couple sources but didn't want to spend a bunch of money when I only needed one.
Thanks again,
Doug

Last time I checked, the reusable ties are NLA from Porsche. The Panduit ones work, but they're not reusable. Well, they are, but the tab that's on them doesn't release the latch. You have to use a small screwdriver or the tip of another zip tie to hold the latch open so you can release it. It's a PITA in tight quarters.
The version that you find under the dash - the strip with a series of holes, are (or at least were) still available. They will work in place of the original reusable zip ties.

I got em all ordered today from Mouser. The stud mounted cable ties were fifty cents each, which seems to be the going rate. The other cable tie I needed was like 58 cents each. The proper name for those is a Push Mount Cable Tie. I ordered a few extra of both.
A cool thing about Mouser is there wasn't any minimum quantity, at least through my work anyway. Their price breakdown starts at one piece and goes up from there.

This is very timely, as I'm planning to re-install my engine very soon. Thanks to all who provided info on the availability of these ties; I'll be ordering a few soon.

My cable ties came in today. Unfortunately I ordered the 5.7" length stud mounted cable ties when I should have ordered the 8.1" length. Too short, especially with the oversize battery cables. I removed and measured one of the originals. Right about 9" long. Should have done that to begin with.
