Raj,
To be fair, things were a lot different back then. There was nowhere near the discord that there is in the 968 community today with 968ers specifically NOT attending an event because someone else may be there. Trust me, although I don't apply the "crack the whip" approach to pushing the event I have sent out a couple of e-newsletters to the 300 PCA 968 register members reminding them about it. On top of that, Don lives in Hershey so it is a lot easier for him to put together the event then it is from me here in CT (I did ask for assistance but so far, just me). Still, I do my best and as long as the weather cooperates I'm sure whoever does show up will have a great time. So, whether we have 60 or 16 968s everyone is welcome to join us.
Thanks
Jeff

od... you're not helping....
i was running toward the fence, tripped on a bunch of thorns and now i'm stuck, bloody and can't get out...
Hershey if you own a 968 = greatest car ever. and the chance to party with Minty and many other cool 968s and their owners.
Hershey if you happen to own a 944 = greatest junk part swap meet ever (and still... this might not be enough)....
and a chance to meet Minty and see all the cars you should be driving and their owners.

BTW, Minty won't be there this year I needed a second driver which my son Greg would typically do however, he is turning 20 on Saturday and although he loves the annual pilgrimage to the PCA swap, he has other plans. Since no one has seen "Mustard" before (my Speed Yellow coupe), that will be our ride for 2012. I'll have them both at the PCA Zone 1 concours in May.

Guys and Gals,
I thoroughly enjoyed organizing, selling and hosting the 968 Celebration in Hershey, during the Swap Meet (the largest Porsche Gathering in the World) for the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009 events. For those that attended you may remember the PCA Official Juding of our Cars, the Tech Quiz, the Tech Session presentations, the Awards Banquet, the famous 968 Caravan to the Swap Meet on Saturday, the Peoples Choice Concours, the AACA Museum Group Photo and the Send-Off Dinner. We had a lot crammed into 2 days but the many activities helped sell the event and convince 968 owners to attend. Back then, I really did not have a problem getting volunteers to help with Jeff constructing one of the Tech Quizzes and many others (Raj, Anchorman, Ray, Rimas, Cosimo and many more). Today the problem is everybody wants to go to a well-organized, event-filled activity but most do not want to help. During the 7 years I met over 150 968 owners and formed many friendships, which was the best part of the event.
Enough of the reminiscing, the question is why come this year?
The reasons:
- lot of 968 Celebration Alumni always show up and you can catch up on each other's lives
- if you are a newbie, this is a perfect opportunity to meet great 968 guys and gals
- if you are looking for 968 memorabilia or rare parts, the Swap Meet is perfect (ask Jeff's son)
- perhaps you will bump into Jerry Seinfeld who frequents the Swap Meet often, looking for something to add to his collection or to find a rare part
- finally, the biggest reason is to meet and chat with others who love 968 Coupes and Cabriolets as much as you do.
Hope to meet you at the Friday Cruise night and on Saturday, if you decide to park in the Concours area (extra $10 which goes to Charity) we may just have a mini 968 Gathering right there. Remember, my garage queen (14,500 miles) will be there but "for display only" so you have a good shot at winning the 924, 928, 944 and 968 Class Award.
Hope to see many 968 Celebration Alumni and lots of 968 newbies!
Don

For those coming to the Saturday Hershey Swap Meet and wanting to park their cars in the Concours area (opens 7:30 am, additional $10 - receive a Goody Bag), there are 7 Classes that will be informally judged by the Swap Meet attendees, not official judges. Look for signs to the Concours after entering the Meet and then look for Charlie, where I will assist you in parking your car in the proper class. There will be 7 Classes:
1) 924, 944, 968 and 928; 2) 911, 912; 3) 911 -84 to 89, 964 - 89 to 94 and 993 - 95 to 98; 4) 911, 996 and 997; 5) 914, Boxster and Cayman; 6)356 and 7) Open. Awards will be given out at 1:00 pm on Saturday with additonal awards for Best of Show and Farthest Distance. Please remember to vote for your favorites in the above classes. Hope to see you there.

For those staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, the front desk indicated they'll have a hose for us to use to wash up the 968s after the journey. Just ask them and they'll point you to it.
See ya,
