Question 968 Race Cars in PCA Club Racing GT-4 or 5...

Hi All,

I am contemplating PCA for racing in 2012, coming off a full season with NASA Northeast in 2011. Trying to figure out how competitively the 968 will fit in GT-5 and/or GT-4. I posted on PCA vs NASA overall but since I know a few of you race the 968 in PCA, I'd like to get your opinion.

After managing to get a headache in the process of trying to understand the myriad of classes available, I think GT-5 may be the best suited classes for me. Porsche 968, GTS2 in NASA Trim. Full aero crap...

Can you comment on the racing itself? Is the GT-5 class competitive with decent numbers (at least 3-5?)? Does the 968 fit well in here?

Thanks in advance...

Cheers!

Pablo, the 968 is best placed in F or SP3 unless significant mods are made. HP is the big deal in the GT classes and if you look at the score sheets, you won't see too many 968's in those classes. There are far more cars running in F and SP3.

You are right indeed. I think I can do OK in GT5S and it allows me to continue to develop the motor. But there is not much competition. And the newer platforms will soon dominate here as well.

SP3 seems to be the ticket. Seems that I can be competitive, even though some of you guys (you included) appear to be flying at some of the tracks! And the class seems to always have at least 3-4 racers.

This may be the way I go. Just need to lower the wing, add a header, and re-tune to liberate some power.

pablo I would want to be able to go between NASA and PCA so GT5s is probably the best choice although as you can see not a lot of other cars although you could be going for the race win.

I think I can do that with SP3 and GT5S. I would probably need a chip and a set of uprights for each. With a fully tuned chip I have seen anywhere between 212 and 226 on Dynojets. Without a header. So I ran detuned in GTS2 at 205.

With a header in there, I may be in restrictor territory to stay under 210 rwhp and make race-end weight of 3045 for NASA GTS2. Then for PCA, I would just take restrictor and the 170 pounds of ballast off, swap chip, and swap uprights. Then run SP3.

I am too far for NASA GTS-3. Would need 250-260 rwhp to really be competitive. Too hard to do. I can get to 240 with head (have on already), cams, and throtle body, but even there I will have to pedal much, much harder to be up-front when compared to the BMWs making 270 at the wheels.... You know the drill.... it is the same at Great Lakes...
