Congratulations on your 2nd place finish in the BMW. It was a pleasure meeting you at Thunder Hill and I hope to see you at more events(they got me hooked). The E36 looked like a well sorted track car, so at least you've got something nice to hold you over till you make a decision with the 968.

Got 2nd in the BMW on Sunday as well! The setup is well sorted as the car practically drives itself. It has had just about zero problems except when I do something stupid or cut a corner on a maintenance!!!

I really thank all of you for taking the time to provide comments on a track build... I'm still up in the air about it... If I end doing a build I'm sure I'll be taking some of you up on your offers of help!
Thanks again!

Sorry I missed this thread. I will echo the thoughts that the 968 is a good engine to race with two caveats.
1. You maintain it properly. I would suggest a rebuild before you race it.
2. Don't rev it above 6,500 rpms without blue printing it. I killed two engines when I was going to 7,500 rpms on non-blue printed engines (broke #4 rod and spun #2 bearing).
After shelling out $$$$, I decided to limit it to 6,500 rpms and had no further problems. If you are worried about oiling, add an accusump.

If you do decide to make your 968 into a track car, you will need wider wheels. The 944/968 car benefit greatly from wider wheels and tires. Keeping the front and rear width similar reduces understeer. Give me a call or email if I can help answer any questions.

Mine's survived on the track with a 7,000 RPM limiter for years, I think that's that should be pretty safe (assuming of course that excursions all the way to the limiter are brief, there's no good reason to ride it).

Keep us posted on the build! Awesome cars. Love them and they'll love you back.
Safety must do: beefy proven a-arms, the fatest ball joint pins you can buy, and race hubs.
Cheers!
