Default Pinion bearing

Awhile ago, I don't remember exactly how long, I think I recall someone having posted a thread about attempting to tackle the pinion bearing issue. Was this ever attempted by anyone here? If so how did it go?

My pinion whining tranny has been sitting on the garage floor for the last year waiting for this also. Fantastic shifting just the whine.

at what point do you hear the whine? i bought my 968 with the assurance that it had already had the pinion bearing replaced but when i press the gas at medium to high speeds there is a whine. it immediately stops when you let off. i always heard it only made noise when you let off the gas above 60mph or so... was i misinformed? sorry to hijack, if this sounds like a pinion issue i'll be in the same boat...

Mine constantly whined from around 30mph on up. It got louder the faster you went. Accellerating or not there was no difference the noise was still there.

thanks, thats kind of a relief. although im sure the sound isn't a good thing. ive only flushed the transaxle once since ive owned it and it was with store brand synthetic in the proper weight... so maybe its time again...

i'll quit hijacking now that its not a pinion bearing issue!
