looks interesting, our 968's have a round connector which is different the what is pictured. It would require an adapter to make it work.

Durametric comes with a different cable for the 968 and pre OBD2 cars. This knock off probably wouldn't work without an adapter. It's a lot cheaper and likely reverse engineered, but it may well work with an adapter

I see the adapter available on ebay as well for less than $30.

My local dealer wants 100.00 just to reset the airbag light so it would pay for itself after just 1 use, if it works. Do they have any type of return policy if it does not work?

Over the years and after paying the dealer a couple of times, I bought the Durametric tool which has been used more times than I like to admit. When I bought it, there was no other alternative like the one you have found.

I *almost* bought the ebay OBDII cable and adapter for our cars instead of dropping $350 through Durametric. In the end, I decided that potentially screwing up my car wasn't worth saving $250. I picked up the kit from Durametric and couldn't be happier with it. The first time I had to reset my airbag light it almost paid for itself, and when I was tracking down some ABS issues, it was a godsend. WELL WORTH the money!!

+1 on Durametric tool. Well worth it's $$. Only issue is, it only allows you to work on 3 different VIN's unless you purchase the professional kit.

I've got a similar questions to Andral. I just bought a 964 ('91). Does anyone know if a "cheap" PIWIS cable (with USB connect) along with the 19 pin round adapter cable will work for checking codes and resetting indicator lights (e..g., air bag/seatbelt)? Here are links to what I'm looking at
http://autorepairtool.ecrater.com/p/...e-for-porsche#
http://www.sensolutions.com/products...r-for-porsche/
I know it looks sketchy but the two cables and CD with software (I assume) is only $70 total. Thanks for any feedback.

I bought the hong kong piwis knock-off and then separately bought the obd2-obd1 adapter for my 968, and it does not work. I don't know if it's the obd2-1 adapter, or the usb-obd2 cord, or the software. I was hoping to find a buddy with an obd2 porsche so I could take the obd2-1 adapter out of the equation to see if the usb cable + software will work.

I have 3 Porsches and help tinker on so many friends' Porsches that I'd need the professional kit from Durametric, and it was worth a shot to try this cheapo version.

Shortly put, the pre OBDII cars didn't follow any particular standards for the diagnostics ports so you are totally out of luck for cheap off the shelf diag stuff when it comes to the 968. Well, other than the Durametric of course, but the eBay OBD2 stuff won't work.
