Balance shaft belt special tool
Hi guys, I am getting close to getting done here, but I've got some conflicting information I'd like to run by the experts. Factory workshop manual page 13-11 says using special tool 9207 ( which I have ) or a 0.5mm feeler gauge ( which I also have ) to set idler pulley to 0.5mm clearance. OK, thats fine except special tool 9207 is 0.77mm thick , or about .030 inch. Since 0.5mm is about .020 inch we have about a .010 inch discrepancy between the two. So, is the manual right or the new special tool? Or is it TLAR either way? Thanks.

I'm no "expert" but I've done plenty of belt jobs, and I think precision is not as important as getting the roller in the correct orientation and general position. So, TLAR method, IMHO. FWIW, I use a 0.020" feeler gauge and everything is great.
BTW, nice avatar!

Thanks Arash, I'll go with the feeler gauge method.
Glad you like my avatar. Thats my 17 yo modeling the camshaft saddles I made.

I reread my post - I didn't mean to use so many acronyms!
You made those tools? Are you interested in making/selling? I made my own timing belt de-tensioning tool like pictured in the WSM in welding class. Maybe we could trade, LOL.

Yes, I made them. I'm a machinist by trade. I've got a fully equipped, really nice milling machine in the garage. But there are times I wish I had a good lift. I can make more saddle tools when I have time. If you need to borrow them let me know. I think I'm done with them for a while. I'll try to get some photos up over the holidays of these and other tools I've made for this project.
