Porsche 928 on TV..
Did you see this in the PCA e-newletter? I will watch.
The Mythbusters crew and Popular Mechanics will test later this month the old claim that the Porsche 928 could go faster if driven backwards. To do so, they flipped a 928's body to face the wrong direction. Porsche 928 enthusiasts have long questioned whether its design caused enough aerodynamic problems to affect the performance relative to other sports cars. Find out the answer when the episode airs on Nov. 17

THEY were terrified the damn thing would go airborne on the salt flats on the top-speed run back in the day.

I've never heard that about the 928, but I have heard it about the 911.
I don't know about the automatic (which I'm sure is what they used), but the manual has such tall gears, I wouldn't be surprised if the acceleration was faster in reverse than in drive! I can't wait to see the episode!
