That's actually not a hinge at all, it's a handle that pulls inboard to release the stop which either holds the headlight from rocking all the way forward, once lifted, or from dropping back down, once pulled all the way forward.

Thanks for the reply - there is a Porsche junkyard north of the city I'm going to call them Monday to see if they have any....

Default Headlight motor relay?

Both headlights on my 1995 968 intermittently stick in the up position.

I have checked fuses 16 and 37 – those are labeled as protecting the headlamp motor circuits – and there is continuity through both fuses.

I'm trying to locate the headlamp motor relay. Post #12 in this thread indicates it is the large silver relay pictured in post #11 – is that referring to the relay outlined in red in the picture below? Pictures of my car’s fuse box label are below. It appears that the large silver relay is G10. In my car, that relay is labeled “cooling fan”. So, I’d like to confirm whether G10 is in fact the headlamp motor relay. If not, can someone tell me the location of the headlamp motor relay?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Mike - Can you tell me the part # of your relays? Thanks.

On my newer 968 the headlight relays are G17 and G18 in one package. Part number:

944 618 205 00

FWIW there is a contactor assembly that controls light operation also that is part of the headlight motor. this device opens and closes contacts to control when a light is up or down. If they get worn or dirty the lights can seem to stick a bit.

Cheers,
-Joel.

My driver's side headlight has stuck a couple of times on me already. Can't remember the numbers of the relays, but mine didn't seem to be labeled as I expected either, but it was a double sized relay. A light tap on the relay with the ignition key turned on & the light cooperates right away. Seems I read there's a way to R&R a relay while awaiting replacement?

Yes 'relays' in these cars are often one or more relays and a logic circuit in a relay package. You can resolder the connections on the board as one might to fix a cruise control module. If tapping the relay helps then it probably has a bad solder joint in there somewhere. The ones that look frosted rather than smooth are often a good place to start, or ones that look like they get very hot.

So you are speaking of opening up the relay to re-soldier the connections inside?

Posted an in depth headlight post,

You can chaeck the relay with teh light all the way up and verify the motor arm is lifting the lifting part of the hinge... Ther are tons of pis too.. Most likely it is a combo of the locking wheel either being broken or the spring weak and dirt in the hinge.

Cheers, Mike

You will see the linkage that raises and lowers the headlight and the cylindrical electrical motor it's connected to. Pop the cap off of the top of the motor (if it's even still there) and spin the **** underneath. I can't remember whether it goes clockwise or counterclockwise, but it should be obvious when you try it, because it spins easily one way and not the other. You can work the linkage through a full cycle to see/feel whether anything's sticking. I'd check the nut that holds the linkage to the electrical motor first, though. Either way, if you choose to lubricate anything in the linkage, you should be able to spray it right on each joint without disassembling or extracting anything.

I'd be more suspicious of the relay, but maybe that's just me and my paranoia of electrical gremlins.

Does anyone know where the POP up light relay is located . I ordered a replacement but cant find it on the car
