There are many factors much more important than brand and flavour of oil.

+2. I am glad people have chimed in. I had the same concerns about people taking this for advise.

obviously a trade-off.

but, with oil failure at high rpm (not summer temperatures) being the worse of two evils,

you all have convinced me to keep running the molasses that flows like crap at startup.

this post by Hacker was considerable, cuz he's got over 1 million posts on Rennlist and knows a thing or two (even more than some of you all, maybe) about Porsches.

.... No way I will ever run an oil with that wide of a viscosity spread in a car I care about.

At least not again. My 100% street driven 944S puked up a rod bearing on Castrol 5w-50.

No thank you

Most of us do not drive our cars when it's cold outside.

You also need to define "cold" which is not 40 degrees when it comes to modern engine oils.

As other people have suggested, you need to talk to experienced engine builders and mechanics who have seen the damage from using the wrong oil in these cars.

Post all the links you want about oil theory, doesn't mean squat to those of us that have seen results in real life.

I guess the point is that if you're looking for the very best possible oil, to eke out that last fraction of a percent of performance, everybody's always going to give you a different answer...but for normal street and track use, as long as you use any decent oil, change it every 3000-5000 miles, and don't rev the **** out of it until it's warmed up, you'll be fine.

My shop uses 1qt Redline w/ZDDP and then fills it using Mobile 1. The ZDDP puts good additives back in the oil now missing from "street legal" oil. Also agree with JDS998...change your oil at the recommended intervals and you will be fine. Oil is the lifeblood of your engine....keeps it clean and lubricated.

Oil is like religion, politics, etc. Argue all you want, nobody's changing their mind.

So is that why you've racked up 5000 posts in 1 year? Trying to catch up with Hacker, Juan, and V2?

Post count means NOTHING for credibility. It only shows how many times someone has posted an opinion. Credibility comes with the quality of posts, not the quantity.

LOL. And past a certain point, a high post count simply indicates "this person *seriously* has no life".

Did your car fail to maintain appropriate oil pressure?

So I guess it does not matter in the end what I use for oil in my no torque inline - six Odurandina? You should feel how much torque this engine does not have at 7500 rpm shifting from 2nd to 3rd

i love inline 6 ingines. TONS OF TORQUE, and TONS of power at low rpms make them great touring car engines for sure.

GOD, what an awsome car a 968 would be had they consigned an engine like that for the cars.

what is the displacement of that engine ? 3.4 litres ?

the old slant 6 chrysler engines would do fine in most of today's SUVs. (might be some issues with emissions).

they made that cummins 6 for the Jeeps. and you can buy the crate motors...

at one point, i had the car up around 4,700~5,000 rpm for like, maybe 7-8 minutes in top gear.

oil pressure was showing @ about 5 on the guage.

i just wished i was running the thicker, summer synthetic. you can push the engines with confidence running that summer oil.

i'm trying to make it a point of not driving like that the winter months. my bad.

Yes Raj, (I am Fred), 1992 E34 M5 6 speed with the matching 3.23 diff. I was thinking at one point to use this model of TB's for the 968 turbo but there is just not enough room with a turbo to get 11-13 inches of runner before the plenum.

968 turbo (4.5 year project) I was waiting till I finished to post but there are some forums members here that (Patrick) that do not realize the changes I made as a result of just talking with them. Was waiting to say that when I finsihed. I have Raj to thank for the splitter

Other shots of the E34 - 197,000+ miles and she still will rev to 8000 rpm in every gear (but sixth - never tried it)
