Keep going at it, even it is for 10 mins at a time . Sometimes priorities take you away from projects. I am sure it will be sweet when done.
Good luck.

I guess I missed this thread the first time around. Keep the faith and eventually the car will be done. Remember, glaciers are slow but unstoppable.

It's alive! I fired it up late last night. No sign of any coolant or oil leaks. Seems to run pretty smooth to me but I don't have any basis of comparison. During the coolant bleeding procedure, when you get to the part about letting the radiator fan motor cycle on and off, are both fans supposed to be running at this time? Only the right hand (passenger side) cycled. Is this correct?

This afternoon I removed and cleaned all four magnetic ABS wheel sensors in an attempt to get my speedometer to work. No such luck. I am going to get into the instrument cluster in a little bit and see if anything looks out of place. Have to replace the odometer gear anyway. At least it won't be 110 freakin' degrees like it was this afternoon.

Nice work!

I think when the car is on, both fans work together at both high and low speeds. When the car is off, that's when only 1 fan is allowed to work (i.e. for post cooling).

I have no clue what the problem with your speedo could be. What all were you working on during this project?

IIRC, speedo is run by sensor in transmission; not the wheels. If you have changed to a turbo trans, this will be a problem.

I removed the instrument cluster last night. It seems that one of the lower primates has been into the dash also. The removal tabs on the wiring harness connectors have all been broken off. That may very well be the cause of the speedometer not working, altho other than the odometer not working everything else seems to be working in there.

Arash, if are inquiring about the 968 project, I'm trying to go through the whole thing. I know it will never be a concours car. Still got lots to do. I purchased a nice windshield from Oklahoma Foreign last week. Mine's got a crack. Maybe get it installed this next week. I'll need them to re-set the hatch glass without breaking it.

The sun roof used to work it doesn't now. It started to pull down crooked then quit working. So I got new gears waiting for that little project.

I have bled/flushed all the brake lines with new ATE Gold brake fluid. Changed the transaxle fluid with SWEPCO 201. Removed and replaced the old locking lug nuts. The old ones were the key type. You would not believe how easy those were to remove. No wonder they don't make them like that any more.

My door handle gaskets need replacing. A bunch of nickel and dime, or should I say five and ten dollar items?

New tires are on the list. My wheels are 17" cup 1s. 7.5" front 9" rear. I intend on doing some auto cross with the local PCA. Otherwise the tires will be daily drivers. Any suggestions by anyone will be appreciated.

At this point in time I don't see any reason to do any suspension up grades. Oklahoma roads are too crapy.

I couldn't help but notice how massive the chrome stock shafts in the shocks are. Larger diameter than the Bilstines on my Dodge diesel.

Anyway, break's over back to work.

Thanks, James. Mine is a 6 speed. I'll go check it out.

Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. Great dual-use tires. Relatively cheap, last relatively long for sticky summer rubber, work great on the track (I've both used them for autocross and Sebring). Just a hair less sticky in the dry than Michelin Pilot Sport Cups or Yokohama A048s, but significantly better in the wet than either (which is not to say that they're rain tires, but they're quite competent). I've run them on 16" Cup 1s and now on the same 7.5/9 17" Cup 1s you have.

Thanks JDS, those Dunlop's sound like what I need.

I took my car out for about 2 hours last night. I love it! The handling and braking are amazing. The engine pulls great from down low and very smooth. It is very quiet running. Too quiet. Sometimes deer like to commit suicide out where I live. I don't need that. I will have to find od's thread and take some notes for future reference.

I ordered those Dunlop's today from Tire Rack. They will be here Monday.
Some questions.
What is the best method or product for safely removing paint oxidization? The clear coat on the hood is very dull along with the sunroof and a couple fenders. I'm trying to make it a little more presentable in public.

I haven't fixed the speedometer/odometer yet. I removed the speedo from the cluster and removed the odometer cover. The little gear is still intact but feels a little soft. I counted 15 teeth on that gear and 16 teeth on the big gear. Unfortunately, the gear I had ordered has 17 teeth. I've about decided there is an electrical issue in the speedometer unit itself. I also was very careful to make sure that the odometer reset button was contacting the reset switch properly. My electrical skills are pretty weak, but I haven't electrocuted myself yet. Is there anything else I can try before I send it off somewhere to be repaired?

I gave my daughter her first ride this evening. She now thinks 968s are way cooler than mustangs or camaros.

Ah, the joys of 968 ownership. My father says that it's a cult. Consider yourself a fully converted cult member!

Start by using a clay bar followed by a good waxing. After the clay bar, but before the wax, run your fingertips lightly across the surface. It should feel glassy smooth, at least compared to the rough surface that you probably have now. My paint is in very sad shape, but a good application of clay bar and wax makes a huge difference.

If that doesn't work, it will likely need thorough buffing, which I suppose you can DIY with a random orbital buffer, or you can just pay somebody to do it.

Have you actually pulled out your multimeter and the wiring diagram, and checked the electrical connections?

I'll pick up a clay bar tomorrow and use the elbow grease method. Thanks for the tip JDS.

I have in fact NOT used my multimeter and wiring diagram yet. That will be on my to do list for this weekend.

Forgot to mention yesterday that I got the new windshield installed. Looks good.

I had an interesting morning today. I was leaving my doctors office, looked in the parking lot of the bank next door and what do I see? A 92 amazon green 968 just like mine but with 16" wheels. Of corse I had to go check it out. As it turns out, this is the same 968 that I saw for sale last year. The car just has a new owner. I wish mine was in as good of shape. I introduced him to the Rennlist forums site. Maybe he'll join sometime.

Oh and another thing, I should have ordered the tires monday. I have a slight bubble in my left front tire. The local Porsche club is having a car show at the south OKC Hooters this saturday. Crap. My car isn't ready yet.

My daughter is taken at the moment but she has a blonde friend who is 21 and single. People think they are sisters
