Default cam sprocket cover

What is the cause of corrosion on the rear ( engine side) magnesium cam sprocket cover? The boss at 4 o'clock position on mine is corroded in half. The rest of it is still attached to the spring pin on the front cover. I went to OK Foreign this morning and found one but it was damaged in exactly the some way. Is this a common issue? At any rate, I will probably just machine the rest of that boss off and make a spacer out of aluminum or delrin.
Doug.

That's weird, I haven't seen that type of corrosion before...you may even want to try Porsche Heaven to see if they have a good one in stock...
