Default New Wheels thoughts

Ok, I'm back...New/Old thoughts on new wheels - 17's hard to find in offsets and diameters and I'm not a fan of twist or cup II's - so I'm thinking 18's in 8 & 9" widths - I could then run 225/40/18 & 255/35/18's ends up with perfect 25" diameters and the same tread widths as 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 - so thoughts on 18's but maintaining the 17's overall spec's...

Theres a new cayman II wheel (simular to cayman s II) that comes in 7x17 ET55 est 20lbs & 8.5x17 ET40 est 22lbs tires would be 215/45/17 and 245/40/17 - lose less than a half an inch in diameter(matched 24.5 & 24.6) and same loss in tread width - I'm guessing that I would be able to pick up a set relativily cheaply as they get traded out for larger wheels on caymans.

In 18's I'm looking at the 2002 thin(knife edge) 5 spoke (mix of boxster and 996) 8x18 ET50 19-5 Lbs 9x18 ET52 22-13 Lbs -I've seen these on a number of 968 and think they look very nice...thinking I can pick up a set for $1000 or less..

Other option is Tire Rack has OZ Racing Alleggerita (multi spoke) 8x18 ET50 17-4Lbs 9x18 ET43 18-8 lbs - not OEM and doesn't come in silver - standard is Anthacite (kind of a bright graphite)...

That style is named "Carrera" and I'm pretty much convinced that they're the perfect wheel for the 968, Porsche just took an extra 10 years to make them :P

I would very strongly encourage you to get those...except that I don't want everybody else snapping up every available set before I have the money for it!

After those, I'd say the OZs are the next best choice, followed by the Cayman IIs.

The Carrera Wheel is pretty sharp and compliments the 968's lines very nicely. I've always been a fan of these. However, i am partial to OEM 18" Technology 1 Hollowspokes and have a set on my car.

Besides the Hollow spokes, i also considered Carrera's, 964 3.6 turbo Speedlines, BBS LM's, & 18" Ruf Classic's. The LM's, Speedlines, & Ruf's were all 2 heavy a wheel imo.

I like these wheels a lot. Sorry for the poor pics, these are all I have on my computer.

They are "2001 boxster" wheels, available only in 17x7 and 17x8.5. I've never weighed them but they feel pretty light, compared to when I lifted cup 2's and some mille miglias. I wish they were available in wider widths, but narrow means light! And I stuck 245s on those 7s so that isn't bad.

Another vote for the late Cup wheels, however THE best wheels would be Volks/RAYS TE37's.

EDIT: I can't seem to attach images to this thread?

Best,

Nice strong, inexpensive and fairly light wheel.

Very nice and light wheel. There were some people complaining about weights not sticking to the wheels in the racing forum here. Only place I've seen or heard that.
