3rd brake light
Hello there everybody.....haven't been here for a while,
some of my little bulbs from the 3rd braking light are out. I kind of remember vagely that there was a conversion to LED's.
I looked everywhere (even in hostile forums), didn't find anything.
Or are there Led bulbs which just plug and play?
Best, T.

Pitou, welcome back. Dave Greimann was offering this service sometime back but he no longer is doing so. Go to 968engineering website and see if he has a procedure.
Regards.

Tobias, as I recall it's a Corvette part if that helps any-maybe buy a whole unit from a GM dealer?
Dave has totally given up on the 968 community it seems after he quit the other site.

Thanks Damian,
I will search for a GM dealer who sells Corvettes (not too many in Europe as you can imagine).
Still wondering though if there is a plug and play solution with LED's. Nowadays they produce lot's of replacements for normal bulbs with LED bulbs + included mini electronics, so that you just have to plug in...
Anyone with knowledge about that?

I found these last fall. Truly plug and play replacements; and they're just a bit brighter than the original bulbs:

I forgot to mention that I got the red ones. I don't know how the white ones would look with the red lense cover, but the red ones are pretty intense.

Great!!
That's the answer I was hoping for.
Now I have to figure out, if I can find similar in Europe or if they would ship to Europe.
John, you find your reds are too red? Would you think white or yellow would do better?

Do you want Cabriolet bulbs or coupe bulbs? Cab bulbs are bi-pin halogens, coupe bulbs are common automotive bulbs. The cabrio bulbs are the ones also common to corvette convertibles of the same era but I get them from the low voltage outdoor lighting section of the hardware store much more cheaply.

The very nature of LED light is a little different than incandescent; it's a very narrow band of wavelength, and a very polarized light, so it does look a little different. The other main difference is that the reflector in the housing doesn't come into play at all; so it's more like 7 distinct sources instead of a red bar with 7 brighter spots. These bulbs emit over a pretty wide angle (120 deg), so they are visible from off angles, but they're a bit brighter when you're looking at the central 20 degrees or so.
That same site has an LED replacement for just about every bulb imaginable; just go to their main site a poke around from there. I've no affiliation, but they seem to have pretty good pricing and there was no issues with the order or delivery.
As for a source in the UK, just google "led automotive bulbs UK". A number of suppliers comes up.

I converted mine to LED and I'm happy with it. It looks exactly the same as it did before, which isn't very sexy, but at least the bulbs will never die out again.
