Default potential new 968 owner... old turbo owner

Hey guys,
I need some advice... First off though i have to say that i know 944s very well. as you can tell from my sig, ive owned both an n/a and a turbo. i'd still own the turbo if my #2 rod didn't want to leave me on I95.... my next phase was to replace the engine but ended up selling the roller as a whole to someone who was doing the same... but i digress... the advice...

im looking at a 92 968 coupe'. it has around 103,xxx miles (according to the current owner)but the odometer broke around 75,xxx miles. the owner has kept great records that indicate its mileage being no more than that... so thats the first red flag if you could call it that.

mechanically its in great shape and is only due for the usual belts in a year or so. (based on time not mileage) the pinion gear has been done also. clutch feels strong and all the usual stuff checks out, ie: doesn't overheat, no strange noises... suspension might need shocks at the least...

cosmetically, not as great. the paint is cracking a little around the driver's headlight and that wing looks as if it is popping out half a centimeter or so where it meets the front bumper. the owner is not aware of any accident damage and i didn't see anything that that would have affected mechanically. the interior needs a new carpet and the seats are a little rough as well. for some reason the only thing that really bugs me is that the driver's door card has a rip in the vinyl right beneath the window...

the owner is a fellow lister and i feel i can take his word at the mileage issue. he owns another 968 and two turbos and an s2 so he knows his stuff.

what would you guys pay for this car? no lsd or m030. just 6 speed. oh and it has a chip. a/c and heat blow cold and hot resepectively. i apologize, i seriously hate it when someone writes alot and doesn't have pictures.... didn't have batteries in my camera when i took it up there...

thanks alot guys, he gave me a good price i think since im looking for a mechanically sound car that cosmetically i can fix as i go along but who better to ask then rennlist.

I would say, at max $8-10K, given the current market.

I concur. We purchased a 2 owner car with 100k and all records for $10k. But we were willing to spend as much as $15k because of the color and options.

It seems the market is soft right now for everything except 993s.

the day may come when you won't be able to find many 6-speed 968s for sale at all - except those being dumped by longtime 968 owners who're moving on to some boring Mercedes/BMW/Cayenne type device... the same who never did the upgrades that most of the guys on this forum do.

that type of seller will be the only sellers left, and we, the few lucky ones, will be buying at these incredible prices... for now and a short while longer.

maybe.

He did buy it and after gathering some infos from a close source of Chris (name witheld) I came up to those conclusions.First the 968 is trying to buy is a rare barn find (and I beleive it judging by the amount of dust accumulated on the car over the years -see pic),secondly it has rare prototype brakes ducts install (I beleive they're from a company call D9).Hence the delay of sharing pics with us,also heard that it is a rare rear seats deleted model plus a series of real serious mods.So I don't blame him for keeping this rare 968 specimen out of our view. But like anything in this world secret can be kept forever so here a sneak pic of it.

so long as it drops a fresh batch of 0w40, i'm okay with the lack of a decent wax job.

and can you ask him to write up a decent how-to on the brake duct install?
