Speed Yellow coupes!!!!
My coupe registry has progressed far enough so that I can share the data with you on the Speed Yellow coupes. It turns out they are rarer then the cabs with only 8 produced (compared to 10 for the cabs). Below are the details which i'm sure you will find interesting:
There were: 8 Speed Yellow coupes built for the North American market 3 1994s (94.5s actually, true 94s, non-718 cars) 5 1995s (4 718 cars, 1 true 95) 8 were 6 speeds 7 had code LT black partial leather interior 1 had code PJ marble gray/black partial leather interior 8 had 595 painted rear spoiler (all of them) 3 were M030 sport chassis cars Unlike the SY cabs, most of the coupes were well optioned: SYCP #1 – 94 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), painted rear spoiler, NO limited slip SYCP #2 – 94 – limited slip, 17” wheels, painted rear spoiler SYCP #3 – 94 – painted rear spoiler SYCP #4 – 95 - limited slip, 17” wheels, painted rear spoiler SYCP #5 – 95 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, dual heated seats, dual 8-way full power seats, painted crest center caps, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler SYCP #6 – 95 – limited slip, dual heated seats, dual 8-way full power seats, painted crest center caps, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler SYCP #7 – 95 – M030 (includes 17” wheels), limited slip, sport seats, painted rear spoiler, alternate color leather shifter knob SYCP #8 – 95 – limited slip, painted crest center caps, sport seats, hi-fi sound speakers, painted rear spoiler, CD changer Jeff |

Hey, I'm happy having 'one of eighteen'. Which was Raj's old coupe, shown here?
|
There has been a SY coupe for sale on Autotrader forever, don't know if it's still for sale.

That one is the color to sample "summer yellow" coupe. It is not included in my list above. I'm not sure which one was Raj's old car. Jeff |

Jeff, Correct me if i'm mistaken. The Summer Yellow car is also the last North American Coupe built.
No, that car is the second to last North American 968 coupe. The last North Amercian 968 coupe is a fully loaded black/black car. The black car has Canadian emissions. The summer yellow car has US emissions so it was the last US spec 968 coupe but the US and Canada share the same VIN series so the black car is the last one. Jeff |
So are all 8 speed yellow coupes alive and well?
|
Where does mine fit in the mix? It was a 94 M030 with limited slip and painted rear spoiler.
|
Good question, I've sent you a PM. I've checked my information and I'm thinking your car is #1. I'll double check my data but it looks like the car didn't have LSD from Porsche. If you look at your vehicle information label do you see a 220? You can find the VIL on the first page of the maintenance manual or under the hatch carpet, to the left, stuck to the floor or tail panel.
Jeff |
Solo, I checked my documentaion on the car and no 220 so from the factory that car had no limited slip. Not that surprising, of the M030 cars i have registered 20% don't have limited slip. I'm not sure why. Anyway, on the plus side you have the 1st North American speed yellow coupe produced!!! That is pretty cool.
Jeff |
I see speed yellow Porsches all the time, guess it's become popular because of the 18 coupes and cabs that were made in 94 and 95-when there is a new car intro Porsche seems to always have a speed yellow car. Guess we were ahead of our time.
|
I will check my vin when I get home. I know it has LSD for sure because last week I was getting my new KW suspension installed and when it was on the lift we tested for LSD (hold one wheel and turn the other). It definately has LSD - however, I was told that it has a Porsche Motorsports transmission. How would I check for sure?
