Default 951 head on 3.0 block

Hey guys,

What modification is required to run the 951 head on the 3.0 block.
water port at left front appears to be different.
this would really make my 3.0 project more affordable since the head has been done by LR stage II with all the goody's.

I believe you have to use the 2.7L S head. Pretty sure the 951 2.5L is not compatible.

Yes the water passages are different. Search the forums. Its not uncommon to mod the 951 head to fit on the 3.0 block The 2.7 head is the better head, and bolts straight on, but you already have the head.

Correct the water passage has to be modified, relatively straightforward.

3.0 Block..... 2.7 Head for a turbo conversion? That is the way factory did it.

Then have them do the water passage mod. They did it for me with my old 3.0L 8V. It's not a problem.

Thank's for the input .

Rolex, what piston did you use for your old 8v engine ?

Must be worth all the trouble since you now have a 3.1 and seems to be a trend going this direction.

I think it is time to pull the head on the S2 engine and study this a little harder. hate to waste all the work on my 951 head if it can be used. Would love to find a 2.7 head to work over but might as well just use the 16 valve if your going to spend more moneys on a head besides the cost of 2.7 heads these days. Just don't like the s2 cams and all too many moving parts !
i have a S2, that is the one in my avatar actually. but have had the 951 a long time now, the old 2.5 is getting tired.
