My bonnet steams in light rain whenever I drive slowly (waiting in the off-ramp queue etc.) even though the temperature gauge is in the normal field and the fan does work. I got my car without bonnet insulation, do 968's come with bonnet insulation. Anyone else have the steam?

968's and even 951's did not have the hood insulation. The insulation never worked as expected, instead it held heat into the engine bay area and caused a lot of paint issues with the hood.

Having owned a couple 944's before my 968 I can report that the 968 must run hotter, or at the very least it heats up very quickly: a real boon in Maine winters. I'm barely out the door when I have heat through the vents: easily a mile and a half before the 944's would kick in.

The steam is from the top of the bonnet so hopefully no harm. One should be careful of tree sap and bird droppings that can get good opportunity to really bake in before you get home to wash it off.
I have also noticed the rapid heating of the interior compared to my 944, They must have changed the heating circuit piping.
