Default stock tip

[QUOTE=John Etnier;7035405]Early 968's had a chromed (or stainless?) tip with a rolled edge. My '93 has this: it can be seen at the link below.
I can: it's (early) shiny. Most 968's are plain metal.

I was under the impression that the early stock tips were stainless and painted black. Owners stripped the paint and polished the tips. (at least in my case this is the case).

Mine is an early car and mine was painted black. The big difference is the rolled tip. See the photo. As for the car in question, I think Porsche speced it out, no one ordered it, hence the 740 option code and early show duty. I think the car is awesome.

Odd color or not...there aren't a lot of 968s in this nice of condition. I wouldn't kick it out of my garage for eating crackers...and I'm straight all the way.

One of these dark violet combos went on Cars.com last winter for about 30k. Owner was firm. I kinda like it but... I really am partial to cobalt blue.

I'm trying to think of the best interior/top color for this exterior color...

It is definitely not purple.

I gotta say the purple top looks kinda nice but the interior is... not my taste.

The exterior color is great. The metallic grey, right?

John,
There were actually 3 metallic grays available on the 968.

A8 Polar silver, offered all 4 years, 134 cabs produced, 5th most popular color
Q9 Slate gray, offered all 4 years, 47 cabs produced (including this car)
55 Zermatt silver, offered 1992 only, 3 cabs produced

Cool, that looks like SS840347 which is at the other end of the production scale. #1989 of 2008, 20th to the last, 1 of 3 95 tips in slate gray.

Yeah, what are the chances of finding TWO cabs in the same color for sale at the same time in the same area?? It'll probably not happen again any time soon. It makes me sad - a few months ago there were two maritime blue coupes for sale at the same time, one was one state over and one was 10 minutes away... I wasn't in a position to buy. When I was, the one in Arizona was gone, so I called the local owner and he had sold it 6 days earlier....

I think for the violet 968, I would prefer tan interior -- less controversial.

For your grey coupe, oddly enough, I think blue would be really nice or the darker grey int. not the light/dark grey combo.

Matador Red was a really great reddish-brown leather option in the early years that would have been gorgeous with the Slate Gray.
