Default 968 Oil Level Sender Question

I have a leaking oil level sender on the wife's 968. I have verified that is is the sender, and NOT the gasket. The unit seems to be leaking internally, and sadly, quite substantially.

Has anyone rebuilt these????

I only ask as they are not that cheap to replace OEM. Since we already have an oil pressure gauge, and the separate level warning. Loss of oil pressure will signal the ECU to trigger the central warning system, so other than a loss of signal for level are there any issues in just blocking-off the sender port in the oil pan and not having the sender to trigger a "low oil level" warning?

Any input and/or experience is greatly appreciated.

You can always short it so it doesn't send a signal. You might be able to block the port off.

I think it would be OK to make a block off plate and delete the sender. And like Raj said, short the wires if having it unplugged leads to problems.

Have you tried looking for a used sender? They shouldn't be too expensive used.

my only concern about used, is it will be old like mine and will probably end up leaking.......so I'd rather remove or replace.....I just think that $200+ for a new sender is a bit rediculous, not that I am cheap, but this part is somewhat redundant with an oil pressure gauge.
