Harvery, it's a 7424, www.detailersdomain.com is a sponser here, Phil, the owner, is awesome and will help you out with a package deal for all that you'll need to get started.

Professional detailers are fascinating people.

I dropped my 01 996TT (5555 miles...yes, garage queen) off at a local detailer (he was one of the top 10 in an Autoweek article) over the winter (enclosed trailer ride) and told him 'whatever and whenever'.

When I went back 4 months later, suffice it to say, when I walked in and saw the car sitting there, it was one of those 'moments'.
It was amazing how different the car looked, especially considering it was a garage queen going in. He told me the number of hours he put into the car and it showed.

Again, they are more like artists.

Thanks, Steve,

I just ordered the Porter Cable 7424 Orbital unit. It looks like a good piece of equipment.

I've heard that the faster revving machines can do a better job but are more difficul to use by non-professionals. Something about the faster rev heating up the paint and somehow smoothing it out. I'm not sure that the 7424 can rev fast enough to do this but I like the variable speed.

A rotary can build up heat much faster than the dual action orbitals like the PC7424, this allows the rotary to correct paint much faster. It also allows you to 'burn' the paint if you do not know what you are doing, keep your pads clean and it's hard to hurt your paint with a 7424, corrections take longer and some stuff may even be beyond it but it is safer than a rotary.

I agree with Speedbump! The rotary take a fair amount of skill and plenty of practice to use safely. I would not recommend getting your experience/practice on your treasured 968. I own the Porter-cable 7336sp and have had great and safe results. My father owns several rotary type as he use them on the custom furniture and cabinetry that he builds for a living. I have used these as well but not with the ease and safety of 7336sp. Just one small burn mark will make you cry and send you back to the paint shop......
