paint type for 968
hope this is in the right forum.
were our cars painted with a single stage or multi stage paint i.e. base and clear coat. the paint (guard's red) is shot and I wanted to get the right gloss/shine etc. as the original.
thanks

Some colors were clear coated, some were not. Simple to find out-get some compound, rub the paint gently, and see if you get any color on the pad. Speed Yellow is single stage. Generally, the non metallic colors are single stage.

Guards red is always single stage. In fact all non-metallics are single stage AFAIK. Steve is the resident detailing expert - he can tell you exactly how to make your red awesome again. Until he chimes in, this is what I do:
meguiar's 3-stage Stage 1 (paint cleaner)
meguiar's #2 (medium polish)
meguiar's #3 (fine polish)
rejex or wax
By-hand works well enough but you'll be so much better off with a power buffer.

Sorry guys for the late reply. Had a trip I forgot about.
Anyway, thanks for the detailing info. I'll give it a shot this coming weekend.
As for my car, it's a 94 cab, black top with cashmere interior. It's all stock except for some chrome 17" turbo look wheels. I'm not even sure they're Porsche OEM.
I bought the car in 03 and it pretty much sat in the sun rain snow since 05 (I leased a MB SL55).
Now that I returned that POS, my interest in the 968 has come back . I love the lines. It's just a shame the paint is shot. But I do have to say that 968 is incredible. Even after all those years of abandonment, I charged the battery and she started right up. I even took a trip to Atlantic City from Staten Island all with the 3-4 year old gas and oil
But thanks for the replies. If the detailing doesn't work, I think I'm going to try to refinish the car myself ( again). I'll probably be posting (i.e. asking noob questions) a lot more now with my renewed interest.

Red is one of those colors that can really leave you feeling empty when it's faded, and make you feel totally invigorated when it's in good shape. A glossy vibrant red 968 is hot! But they just fade too easily! I have to keep mine rejexed every 2 months to keep it from going pink again. Maybe I should do it more often than that?

Red invigoraed and I do not love red.
My black 968 is getting a total respray and what would happen if I used the metallic black clear coat.
