It is time to get my wheels refinished and the fiancee said she will do it for christmas. I want to change the color up a bit but she is wanting to know what it will look like. Anyone willing to do some Photoshop?

I would like to get a guards red, Gloss black and GP white sample.

Here is a picture to work with. TIA!!!

I'm not the best image editor... and I don't even have photoshop, I used another program. Also no mouse, just a thinkpad trackpoint. But here it is:

I think they all look cool, but my specific input would be that black hides the look of the cup2 too much, and red is pretty flashy (it would look good with the Club Sport side decal). White is a tasteful and clean match, even if some may call it boring.

The verdict: All cool. Consider powder coating instead of paint, so it lasts way longer!

FWIW I have a buddy who owns a '92 coupe - white with matching rims. I believe it came from the factory like that. If you're looking for a change, perhaps white would be the way to go and still maintain something that could be construed as factory finish. Just a thought.

There were 5 92 968 coupes that came with the XD9 painted wheel option, 1 purple, 4 white. Maybe your buddy's was one of the white ones. The code XD9 would be on the vehicle information sticker. If he doesn't have that then get his VIN and I'll check the registry to see.

Thanks guys!! This will help her visualize it. I am probably going to go white. My only concern is that the white will not match. Another thing is they would be a pia to keep clean. Decisions decisions. Now lets see if she still wants to do this seeing as we are about to buy a house.

I asked my mom which she thinks looks best. She said red is too loud, black is too hidden, and white is nice/sporty. But then I showed her the silver and she finally became excited and said "there, that one looks great!"

Personally I can't decide. Every time I want to decide on white, I see the black again and it looks really cool. Silver of course looks great. Red.... it could be awesome if you also had a red Club Sport decal or something like that, but just red wheels on their own might not hit the bull's eye.

The white on white with the silver looks great, better than all white I would think. And that was a factory option for the 16" Cup 1's.

Default A Cup II variant new to me

Here's a Cup II variant I didn't know existed. When Porsche was building C2S 993's at one point you could order the car in a special Vesuvius color. When you did that your Cup II's had steel grey painted centers.

There was Exclusive department option for painted D90, Cup I, Cup II and possibly other period wheels. Usually color was same as body color but others were possible also. Outer lip was left standard silver. For example Arena red '95 GTS with Cup II's.

Oak green '92-93 GTS with Cup I's.

Grey GTS in '94 MY Exclusive department brochure has still Cup I's.

Option codes for body color versions were XD9 for wheels and XD4 for center caps. I'm fairly certain factory could, would and did these to some 968's as well.
