Thumbs up "968... one of the greatest driver's cars of our time."

The GT Purely Porsche Nov. '08 Feature article - "Porsches Finest" "60 Years of the greatest Road Cars" - sadly has no photos of the 968. But the story by Stuart Gallager refers to the 968 as the "model that had replaced the 944". Stuart was speaking of the end of all the front engine Porsche in 1995, with the passing of 928 and the 968. He relates to the tough times Porsche was facing at the time. Then he notes and I quote: "The real travesty with the axing of the 968 was that it had flourished into one of the greatest driver's cars of our time."

Recoginition long in coming ... but nice to see in print in a story that speaks about all the fine machines in these 60 years.

I have to agree. The 968 is a great all-around sports car.

That's why I have 2....can't beat them for the handling and the ease to drive fast!

What's surprising is the amount of attention they get, even today. We are fortunate enough to actually enjoy them and use them. To some, they are still eye candy.
I had a few incidents recently that made me proud of 968 ownership.
Just today, I was in the middle lane and noticed a C230 compressor follow me almost parallel. This is very annoying to me since you don't have an escape route in case of an emergency. I slowed down a bit and the guy finally got the point and speed up just 1/2 car length ahead of me. I noticed he had a camera and was taking pictures of the car, back/side and front .
I also ran into someone at Gold's who asked me if I owned the blue 968 cab. I answered yes and he told me how he had noticed me drive around town and always admired the car. We hit it off really well and he turned out to be a bimmer owner.
It might be the color but all in all, its amazing how many people notice them.
Regards.
Raj

I get a lot of compliments on the lines of the coupe, and people really seem to think the cab is very handsome. I've actually had students here at work ask if the cab is a new model! Classic lines and such great handling....you can't go wrong. When I told one of my students that the two of my cars combined cost less than a new Infiniti G37S he was floored!

I regularly have people ask what year my cars is. When I reply 92, shock usually sets in. Timeless indeed just needs more power.

100 with a/c would be nice. These cars are also a little fat if you ask me. Give me 350 hp and ANYTHING under 3000 lbs.
