DIY: Turning your ashtray into a cell phone holder
Hi everyone,
I was tired of not having a place to put my cell phone while driving. I use a bluetooth headset and like to have the phone sitting near by. Anyway, since I do not use the ashtray, I figured this was a good place to create something useful.
So I did the following steps:
1. I removed the metal ashtray insert from the plastic trim piece.
2. I removed the sliding door, it comes off easily.
3. I took my Drimel and cut the remaining plastic away from the trim piece.
4. I smoothed the cut area down with my Drimel too.
5. I cut a piece of foam to fit within the ashtray insert, had to trim it a little to fit.
6. I used double sided sticky tape at the ends of the plastic trim piece and pressed it into it's normal position.
7. Now I have a nice surface to place my cell phone while driving.
See pix of finished results.

When I am running my iPod through my stereo, the Blackberry causes interference if it is in that cubby. It is too close to the stereo so I get that "Blackberry noise" every few minutes when it cycles the signal.
