Do you need a a/c delte bracket to take out the a/c compressor? I am considering removing the complete a/c system from my race car.

I'd say the practical answer is - yes. With your current bracket, the alternator is in a fixed position, while the AC compressor pivots, and provides for adjustment to tension the ribbed belt. If you remove the compressor, you lose that adjustability, and therefore the ability to tension the belt. You would have to come up with an alternative for adjusting the belt tension, which probably isn't worth the trouble, given the fact AC delete brackets are fairly inexpensive. With the AC delete bracket, the alternator is dropped down to roughly where the compressor used to reside, and places it in an area that seems cooler, and also clears some clutter from underneath the intake manifold area.

Any idea on how much weight the a/c delete saves?

The compressor itself is 15 pounds. So, removing the compressor, evaporator, and lines might save you about 20 pounds. Removing the blower, and AC/heater components from inside the car might save you another 30 pounds. I'm not sure of the exact weight of those components, I removed mine, but did not weigh them, I just tossed most of the bits in the garbage can.

No, the bracket is not needed.
