Default Engine hesitation

I did another PCA autocross today but the 968 wasn't so happy. There were 2 sweeping right-hand corners in which the engine would hesitate for a second or two before delivering power. Here are the facts:

1) Less than 1/4 tank of fuel, maybe 1/8 full?
2) Didn't happen the first couple of runs but got worse during runs 5, 6, 7, 8
3) Hesitation was worse when giving engine full throttle after the corners
4) Only occured when exiting the fast right-hand corners

Any ideas? Was my fuel level too low??

I'd bet the baffle inside the fuel tank is causing a starvation. Its a known problem for track run 968's, unfortunately. A quick forum search ought to get you the answers, but a replacement tank is probably in order.

Regards,

Trevor, if I remember correctly, aren't you having issues getting fuel past a certain level in your tank? This could be related to that and as Scott suggested, it could be something in the tank.

I had similar problems on the track, tank was reinstalled incorrectly at some stage in the cars life, those pipes(returns?) that run over the top were crimped/squashed.

Raj, there are no problems with the fuel tank level.

How did you fix it?

I know exactly what thingo is talking about. I had to remove the gas tank on the cab to seal it and saw what a pain it can be to get it in. Its easy to crimp the lines since the tank has indentations on it. If you don't get it right, the hoses will get crimped. Your only choice would be to drop tranny, drop tank and then check for any crimps.

Trevor,
Your car did this to me when it was mine once or twice at the track. It was a really hot day and the tank was also 1/8 full at the time I opened the top of the tank and had a look inside but couldnt see anything missing or loose at the time, I didnt do it again the last two times I went out to the track but I ran with more fuel in the tank and didnt even think to take another look to be honest. you may want to have another look inside the as I might have missed something

Hey Scott, thanks for the info. It's not really a big deal so I'll just run with fuel between 1/4 and 3/8 next time!

BTW, here's the latest autocross clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRnRd5oGDSY

Trevor sorry I missed you at the AX, it turned out my bro's birthday party was that day so I had to bail on you. See you at the next one.

It could be just that you have to have more fuel in the tank. My 928 GTS has the same "problem". If there are the last 10-15 litres in the tank then it might be not enough for the long curves.
