As much as I agree with you Jim, I am not yet ready to go down the slippery slope. Its a big commitment and takes a lot of time and $$. I have 2 little kids and its impossible for me to even plan for the next day.

Straight line is certainly fun but there's nothing like the g-forces felt on the track, never mind the testing of one's driving ability.

I have a few friends that take completely stock Porsche's to the track a couple of times a year and have a blast. No frills but a great way to enjoy the track.
For the NY/NJ Rennlisters, the soon to open Thunderbolt Raceway will be a great venue to get track experience with their Porsche's.

After 2 autocrosses now I've decided that I like to launch between 4500 and 5000 rpm, with a quick release (not dropping the pedal.) Seems to have been the best compromise between bogging and wheelspin. On a drag strip with VHT I'd suspect that you wouldn't get much wheelspin if you cranked up the launch rpms a bit.

Check RSBarn.com for those parts. They also have cams which would get you near the power you are after.

I would think as a daily driver it would make a nice car, and allow for a second car to be the "fast" car. I am not a drag racer, but I do want a certain level of performance.

A 968 Turbo would be the ultimate IMO.

FYI STi often run 13.0-13.3 in the 1/4 stock. My Subaru had a few minor mods, still running stock turbo and fuel system.
Stick with turbo's. You will never be happy with NA power.

Miata
S2000

The 951 being the best bang for the buck of the bunch. I like something about the 968, but if they are this slow that makes me quite concerned. My Subaru (which was just totaled) ran mid 13's and I would consider that less than stellar performance.

I like the look, and the 3.0L motor, but the lack of a Turbo is a huge drawback IMO...

This bums me out a bit.

Bingo. And on a really good course, the "slow" NA will be more fun than a turbo. Remember this was a cabriolet too. At Laguna Seca last time I passed every single S2000 in my run group (4 or 5), and my car is all stock.

If you are a drag racer, you may as well stop reading this or the 951 forums now. These cars are NOT designed for that.

Its not that bad. The suspension is definitely not meant for hard launches though.

Im sure the Germans made the cars able to handle the abuse. They definetly went all out designing everything else.

What Jim said...of course having a group drag race to start is even more exciting.

Raj - you should take the turbo next time (and still tell them its stock).

He would need a fire suit to race if he brought the turbo. Any aftermarket power adders require the driver to have a suit, rules of the track.
