Oil Pan Install tip - DIY
I mentioned this in my tread on rebuilding the top and bottom end after some oil pressure issues at the track.
Anyway, I have searched around a bit regarding installing the oil pan. On Clarks Garage, they mention using dental floss to tie down the corners so that you can fit the oil pan up to the bottom of the car. I tried this and it did not work well for me. Another person mentioned using duck tape and barely taping the bolts as they just a bit through the oil pan gasket. This did not work either..
So, I was there looking at the pan, gasket and wondering how to get it up in the car. I was working with my 14 year old and he had the folloing idea:
Use tiny zip ties. Wow...I thought, that is great.
So here it is.
1. Lay the gasket along the oil pan.
2. Take some small zip ties and put 3-4 on each side (see picture).
3. Do not put any on the front left corner unless you have moved the AC compressor out of the way. If you did, then you need the small hands of a 14 year old to snip the zip tie.
4. Fit the oil pan up to the engine.
5. Thread a couple of bolts on either side and as you add more bolts, snip the zip ties and if necessary use some needle nose pliers to pull the cut tie out.
6. Torque bolts per Porsche spec.
