Default Gass reserve light coming on and off but gauge works? anyone had this?

Noticed for the 1st time that my reserve light came on with 7/8 of a tank of gas. It stayed on until 3/4 then went off. It came back on around 1/4 and went off when it was almost empty.

Anyone else seen this? I have a friend with a cluster from a tach failure but do not think it's gauge related but could be wrong.

Any help or "look at this 1st" will be appreciated- Mike

The sender unit is easily accessible from the trunk. You might want to remove the connector and clean up the pins and see if that helps.
To get to the sender unit, you need to remove your hatch carpet and then pull the round plastic cover off. You will see a square connector that powers the sender unit. It could be corroded.

I assume in the cab it's the same... I see grounding pt in the trunk in this pic of that parts car we were looking at buying...is this the plug? I looked in the manual but it did not cover anything related I could find- I'll look at the car tonight, It's probally obvious with the car in front of me.

Thanks, Mike

No, thats for the lights. Go to the right side and furtrher up towards the seat. You will see a 5-6 inch big plastic cap. Remove the cap and you will see the fuel level sender connector.

There are a few tricks to removing the cluster but its not that hard. We will worry about that if it gets down to it .
