Default Anyone have a roll bar in thier cab? looking at a Autopower Sport- thoughts?

Hey guys- I found a roll bar which is a Autopower new for under $400 for the 968 cab. It says it will fit the cab with the top on and not alter movement.

specs-
STREET-SPORT ROLL BAR
- Designed for high performance street use
- Tube size 1.750 x .120 DOM mild steel
- Bolt-In Removable horizontal harness
- 4 point bolt-in mounting design
- All hardware included for installation

Anyone have a roll bar in thier cab? I am in the middle of installing new seats and carpet and thought now is the time if I am going to put one in....thoughts?Overkill? I never track this car but thought added safety is always good....

Cheers- Mike

Plenty of info here:

Pros and cons to the bar you speak of. There is even one listed FS.

I don't have a Roll Bar but I do have something termed a "Chassis Stiffener" for liability reasons. You can sort of see it in my avatar. Having rolled and spun in other vehicles I like a little extra protection. That being said, running a bar without using a harness and helmet puts you at risk of banging your head into the bar in an impact (does not have to be a rollover). The autopower bar does require some drilling I believe and maybe a cut or two of interior trim (not sure on that) but it should stiffen the car up significantly. That can be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view.

Very classful and appropriate response.
Kudos.

Now I may actually be considered a promoter. Looking at the AutoPower bar it is a 4 point bar that attaches to sheet metal and you definitely have to cut panels. The bar in my car is a 6 point bar that attaches to frame points with a couple of small modification to the rear cubby box. If you really want to go this route, see if you can find one of Flash's Chassis Stiffeners used, get Flash to run one off for you ( he is not doing batches any longer) or get a custom bar done. You can find more info on Flash's design at www.968forums.com
Sorry camera batteries are dead (yes, like my dog) so I can't take any better pictures for you but you can see part of it this larger version of my avatar.

Just went thru this. The Autopower roll bar mounts on the floor and on the elevated portion of the rear deck. It also stands straight up. The rear mounts are on the fenderwells so extensive cutting of the rear panels is required. Look on the 968 forums .........Racing.........Autopower Roll bar. Theres a member over there who will sell you his while we wait for Flash to make us both one of his.

I had a roll bar in my 93 cab. The bar fits well with the top up or down. The negatives are that you pretty much have to butcher the kick panels around your wheel wells in the back seat, and you end up having to drill about 16 holes through the floor pan and the wheel wells.

If your interested, I would be willing to sell you my bar for half of the bar you were talking about.

Good luck.

Design 1 brace only takes about an hour or so to install. I put it in Mark's car and the hardest part was modifing the cubby box for a clean look
