I'd like to see that as well. I just had my car serviced and I asked my tech about this same thing while the car was on the lift. He said that you can do this with the motor in the car. Cross member comes off and anything else in the way. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but he made it sound simple FWIW.

I am at the same point, I am pulling the steering rack, lower A arms and cross member. Then the oil pan is next. BTW, Northern Tool has a an engine support bar for $54.00. Looks like the Porsche OEM version for probably hundreds less. Here is the link:

The Haynes manual for a 944 should be at least a good reference. I imagine it's 99% the same as a 968 bottom end.

A tricky part to removing the 968 oil pan is the plastic baffle. As long as one is patient, the rest should be similar. It always helps to remove the oil level sender 1st.

Rod bearing replacement is pretty straight forward once the pan is off. The only special tool that is needed is a torque angle gauge when torquing the rod nuts. When replacing the bearings, you need to get some new rod nuts. Porsche designed them to be single use only. Also, you must take the oil level sender out prior to removing the pan or else damage will occur.

One other thing, if you are not sure if the bearings may or not be an oversize, check the back of the bearing half when you take it out. It will say either std meaning standard size or list the oversize number you will need.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it looks pretty straight forward. Next up on the tool list.....torque angle gauge.

You can use a couple of 2x4s for an engine support.

Wanted to verify the torque procedure on the rods. I believe it is different than the 944.

Also, do people usually verify the fit of the new bearings with plasticgauge and if so what is the specification?

Thanks for the help.

Tim, it should be documented in the manual. Do you have a set?

Hi everyone, here is a DIY that someone sent me. It came off of the Paragon site, but is not up there anymore (I checked).

Hope this helps.
