Default 968 carpets vs 944 carpets

Am I correct in assuming that the carpets, seats and lower dash parts from a 944s2 can be transplanted into a 968?

Yes. They are interchangeable.

I think the real difference is the rear hatch carpet is a little different.

Although I could be wrong.

The rear hatch is different. The spare section is different.

yep, that was one of the new features of the 968 -- a couple inches of extra space back there.

where can we get the rear center carpet that covers the spare ? mine is tired.

parts cars?

I think it's important to have the rear cargo cover, mainly to protect the carpet from fading and drying. Either find one, or make one like I did. Just MHO.

You can also protect the rear carpet by leaving it in your garage

Just extra weight anyway

Although I actually find it really cool that the 968 has multiple "hidden compartments" if you keep the carpet in place...this really is a remarkably practical car.

Does anybody ever tint the hatch? I can't remember ever seeing that in person or in photos. I usually don't like tinted windows, but there's no practical way to put a sunshade up under the hatch, and it's so enormous and horizontal, it makes the car like a greenhouse when it's parked in the sun.

I've talked to a few tinting shops. Shops who have tinted 944 hatches before will say it is one of the hardest windows to tint out there, and some of them will outright refuse to do the job.

One might try Parts Heaven in Hayward, CA for the carpet. I'm sure they will have one, they often have hard to find parts, and they know it.

I'd be worried anyway because the very very shallow angle would mean that any tint would block rearward vision more than it would block vertical sunlight (making it difficult to find a percentage that balances the two). I've always wished there were something to do about this, though...

the guy who designed and built my subwoofer enclosure (Rick) has a subcontractor at his shop. he uses.. Rick described him as one of the best tinters around... encouraged me to have my rear glass done...

he's 4 blocks north of the Hard Rock on 441 in Davie.

look for the Dunkin Donuts right across from Burger King. go past the "donut" all the way to the far left end of the building.

Default Ha - the 1970's called...

They want their rear shade back. Reminds me of the shade I wanted so badly for my 85 Z28 back in the day. Now I look back and wonder what I was ever thinking.

I had my 85 N/A tinted at a local glass shop with medium smoke tint for around $130, including the rear hatch. They did a very good job. That's been over 10 years ago. My point is that someone talented enough and determined to to a good job can make it look right.

So did you ever have your hatch done, and if so, did he use ceramic, metallic, or dye-based tint?

I'm only interested in ceramic tint because I don't like the way dye-based degrades and metallic interferes with radar reception.

Did you notice the shallow angle of the glass making it particularly dark trying to see through the rear view mirror?

My Audi's back glass is only a few degrees less inclined than the 968 glass, and it's tinted, and I never really noticed if things appear darker looking backwards compared to looking out the side windows. FWIW.
