Jim, you echoed my exact feelings after driving a completely stock car. Sometimes we tend to go a little overboard with mods and in the process lose some of the fun factor.
I tried to go down the slippery slope on my cab and found out very quickly what works for the coupe does not work for the cab. 18's inch wheels, all this other suspension stuff, single piece flywheel, all in all, I think the car started to go in the wrong direction.
I will definitely be undoing some of my mods and try to bring back the enjoyment factor. Its a weekend car at best, no point in making it uncomfortable.

Now my other P-cars are different stories, the 968 coupe, the 911 and the 930 have seen extensive motor mods, boosting and track time so the Cab gets to sit back and be the voueur..

Mike, you are a smart man. Cabriolets are different beasts all together. Better off leaving them close to stock.

The blue car is stock down to the factory deck. Stock fresh suspension and motor too. It's hard to enjoy any car on the streets of San Francisco, and I have not had the opportunity to take it for a joy ride.

The red car is stock except for a cone air filter, and 951S CS wheels.

I completely agree with Thom about the wheels. I replaced the 16" wheels with even lighter 16" wheels. And I don't know what it's like in the rest of the country, but most places in CA have unbelievably bad pavement. I can't count how many pot holes I hit every day. I think it's best if I keep it riding on tall sidewalls.

I went to 18"s while I search for a set of 17s I like. I did wait until they repaved pretty much my entire commute, I'd say 13 of the 15 miles of pavement are fresh. I also drive a 4x4 Pick Up Truck so it's still smoother than that on bad pavement.

Mark, you will be surprised at how much more you will like the 17's over 18's in a cab. You are making the right move.

Acutally installing a cat back system isn't complicated at all, even if you do it on jack stands. The only real advice I have is to spray down all of the bolts at least two days before you try to take it apart.

My mods are all reversible except for the added breathing holes in the airbox.

Really? Getting rusted bolts off would seem to be the hardest part. How about water into the intake if you bore out the airbox? has anyone ever heard of that being a problem?

Should not be a problem. Have you looked at where the front snorkel leads to?

Water in the airbox is not a problem.

I did check under the car last weekend and the bolts look OK, but I will need gallons of rust penetrator and a six pack of John Molson's finest to get the job done I'm sure. As for the airbox and h2o - that makes me feel better. I just imagined plowing thru a large puddle and getting water into the intake thru the bored out air-box. I assume the air filter will stop anything from getting ingested? I have a K & N on there now. I heard the car sounds different (better?) after the airbox mod is done. Urban myth or fact? I checked on snopes and couldn't find anything ....

Yeah, there is more induction noise from the airbox holes.

My '92 is completely stock, with the exception of rear Konis and a Becker CD-220, both of which will be repaced with original items once I get them in hand. The Konis were more available and I haven't been able to find a decent CR-1 unit with a security code has the same connection as my original.

I also have a highly modded 951, so I get my speed fix on that car. If I were picking between the two, it would be a very tough choice, but I'd probably stick with the 968. The factory did the job right, imo.

Regards,

Yeah the airbox holes make a lot more sound. A cone filter makes even more sound but is less popular.

Tried to find a cone filter - couldn't but heard good things about the K & N and went w/ that .... I located a template on-line to perform the airbox mod. Maybe it's best I buy another airbox and carve that up so I can keep a stock one handy. Does it make a noticeable difference?
