968 Values in April 08 issue of Excellence
#2
It has to be an error. If anything there are some special things about the 1992 model yr which should make it valuable. It seems almost off the scale when compared to other yrs. I would scale back from a 1993 model to come up with more realistic 1992 prices.
It seems like a mistake on someone's part. The car's are mechanically identical and have no advantage or disadvantage one yr to another.
Definitely a mistake.

When I first saw the market values in Excellence a few weeks ago I was also surprised to see the 1992 968s drop in value by almost 50% from 2007.
I emailed the editor, Pete Stout, asking him if it was a mistake and he replied that he thought it probably was and he would get back to me to confirm it. He said it was most likely an input error.
I haven't heard back so I sent him another message and will let you all know if he gets back to me.

Hard to imagine that S2 values are up and 968s down. I respect Anderson's meticulous work. There are just too few 968s to get any sort of a valuation of the sort he does - based on reader reported sales.

Never mind, was shopping with wife tonight so I hung out in Barnes & Noble and they had the April Excellence.
95 Cabriolet ranged from $14800 to $22500 (down the past 2 years from by about 3K).

The early '92's seem to suffer from the perceived (and probably true) Pinion Bearing Failure more than the other model years; therefore the lessened value...
And then we have the general economic collapse of the US economy, thanks to the greedy home loan institutions... go Bear Sterns! (or JPMorgan!!!) Hard to sell ANY "toys" these days...

Do 92s suffer from more pinion bearing failures than other years?
I always thought it was sort of silly to break out 968 prices by year. The differences are so slight as to be almost irrelevant - with the exception of R12 refrigerant in the 92 of course (IIRC the recessed hood badge did not last all the way through the first model year). With the cars so similar and built in a narrow window of years it would seem that mileage and condition would be a far more relevant indicator of the value of a 968 than year.
Once again, the sample size is so small that I think the 968 defys conventional pricing.

I was pretty pissed when I saw the '92 pricing since mine is a '92. It's GOTTA be an error. They've addmited to making errors before, so it would make sense.
Mines worth $14,000cdn to me and I ain't letting it go for less than that, I don't care what anyone says.
