Default Radar Detector: Is V1 still the "best?"

I have a Valentine One that I use in my Pcars. However, I'm always on the lookout for something better. Some comments/questions:

1. I don't like the wire that hangs down so I've re-routed the V1 wire down the door post to the power (It's just a functional routing, under the rubber door seal). I've heard that the new wireless detectors are not all that good. Anyone have experience with wireless?

2. I'd prefer to have the detector out of sight. Preferably, there would be a little display somewhere below the dash on the console, the sensors somewhere in the front and back of the car, and the box where I (or the car behind me) would not see it. Does a such solution exist and does it work? I understand that the V1 has a remote display but the sensor is still mounted high.

3. I like a detector that can be moved from car to car although I understand the advantage of the built in "hidden" detector. Does Valentine or anyone else offer the option of remote sensors and/or concealed installation?

4). I hear that the Police have a way to detect radar detectors. Is this true? If so, how best to deal with this?

It seems that the Valentine 1 is the current most popular radar detector. I like the directional display but am always looking for a better technology. Distance, sensitivity, minimum of false-positives are all important to me. Is there something better? Comments?

I still have my V1...sent it in a few years ago for the laser update.

The plug bothered me, too. So, I had a local shop hard wire the power cord in; so that the male end of the cord outlet now drops down just below my rear view mirror.

You might want to consider that.

Autoweek recently did an article on radar detectors and concluded that the V1 was among the top 2/3 available.

Interesting addition. Now if someone would just shrink down the bulky detector itself.

I always wire my V-1's to my interior light. It works very well and is very easy to do. I mount my V-1's above the rear view mirror on the passenger side and its not very noticable at all from the outside.

I just drove from KC to Orlando to Indy and back to KC. My V-1 saved me a number of times.

Regards,
