Default How fast is your 968?

I mean, how fast has your 968 ACTUALLY gone, top end, for real? I've never been above 145mph but I ran out of track. I've always wanted to run in one of the sanctioned Nevada open road races. There are several of these runs each year. You "race" against a clock. For info see http://www.openroadracing.com/

The problem with most race tracks, the long stretches are not long enough to wring out the top speed.

I would think 150mph is quite achievable on a NA. I want to see what my turbo can do. I will need to find a stretch long enough some day.

I did 148mph in 5th gear on 1-505. (Almost no traffic) I was showing off to a ex-Cobra Mustang owner. Vowed to never do it again.

I've seen 155 once. And that is just before the tach tells you no mas.

Has anyone calculated (on paper) whether or not the turbo 968 could crack 200mph? 928 strokers are breaking 200mph quite regularly in the Nevada open road races.

How different are the ratio's in the turbo s' box? And... 928's break 200mph REGULARLY?!?? (on a strait section of road) What model of it are they using? What are they stroked to, and what are they putting out? hehe that makes me want a 928 a bit...

It may not have been in my 968(because I dont have one) but I got a ride in one up to an indicated 120-sumthin. Butter smooth

Most sites have the 968 turbo S at 175mph with 305hp and 369lbs/ft of torque. Not sure what a tweaked one making atleast a 100hp more with higher redline would do? I know the gearing is extremely tall.

I got 154 mph indicated on the stock speedo. It was on a flat road, nice weather / warm. I don't think it was about to redline...? Maybe? I was watching the speedo not the tach!

Just tonight I passed a radar display and it showed 41mph while my speedo showed 40mph.

I've got my gearing changed for the track...shorter gears for 3rd-6th.

So, now I'm mathmatically topped out at around 151...I've hit that at VIR.

That's plenty fast for me...unfortunately, it's not for others and I've been tagged a few times!

I've seen 160 on my speedo....not sure about how accurate that is, but hey...I'll go with that until I decide to make that run again with a gps. By the way, the car felt very stable at that speed.

I have gone an indicated 165, so I would think at least 150.

140mph in 4th gear at 6500 revs. I have 285/30/18's out back. Not sure about speedo accuracy.

Not a 968 but close enough...

I working a deal on my 968 from a guy in Atlanta, I flew up to get the car, mind you this was after months of looking and driving to several states. The car was better than described, which was great considering that I had only seen 2 pics and the money had already been wired to his account.
Concluded the deal and went to a friends house to show of the car and spend the night.
We went out for dinner and drinks and drinks and drinks... you get the point.
( did not drive the car took a Cab)
I woke up at the crack of dawn feeling like my head was outside under one my new tires.
Chugged a Gatorade and left Atlanta heading back to Savannah.
So this is where the high speed fun starts. It about 6am Sunday morning and not a car in sight so I decided to see what my new toy would do.
The pull at 4000 ( sweet power band) was a GREAT feeling and started to get the blood pumping.
I put it into 6th gear at about 115 and pushed the peddle to the floor and let it start to wind out.
125,135 140 felt pretty good up to about 135 and then the car began to flex alittle, but not enough to stop me from pushing on.
It was at about 140 +/- that I went over a Bridge an the road fell out from under the car, when the car came down the the pavement the car flexed and the top came loose.
It was at this point my anus was about the size of a pin head. So there I was one hand on the top and one one the wheel, now testing the power of my new breaks.
It seems that the guy who I had purchased the car from neglected to tell me that only 1 of the latches worked. nice guy. huh!
Drove the rest of the way home at the speed limit with one hand holding the top down.
The top got fixed the very next day!!!!
Just thought I would share my first day in the car and first time to 140 in it.

Love the 968, fun car and real head turner.

Cheers,
Joel
