Knowing Robert Linton who started that thread I'm not surprised he's looking for maximum weight loss-didn't he get magnesium or titanium seat rails made up for his ultra custom 964??

Funny this came up. We just started carrying these! The weight saving is very large without a reduction in cranking ability. Check them out:

I have the 11lb Braille battery in my track car. I charge it before every event and it has for the most part worked fine: I've had to jump it on a few cold mornings. Myself, I wouldn't use one in my daily driver, but it's fine for the track car.

Ive got a Odyssey PC680 in my 944. I run it during the warmer months, usually from November through April. The car sits during the week, maybe 3-4 day unused and never has problems starting. I saved about 27lbs off my normal sized Duralast battery.

I have just installed a pc680 with a Rennline battery mount kit. Very nice quality; works great and no dead battery even with the transponder on.

Mike, do you have any pictures of the Rennline battery mount kit? I was going to buy one when they were first released but never saw pictures of it mounted in 944 / 968 series car. Just curious as to how it mounts before i buy it.
I made a 'custom' Home Depot special to secure my PC680 and was told yesterday by the tech guys they wouldnt pass it next year. Rather than fab up a lightly better Home Depot special, id rather just get something already engineered!

I like my Odessy battery for my track car...but I have a cut-off switch.
I wouldn't use one for a street car, though. Saving 20, or so pounds doesn't seem so important for a street car.
I also always bring a jumper pack to the track...I've had to use it once or twice when first firing up the car on colder days.

Odyssey 680 here -- I've only experienced one problem to report. Killed the battery in a major night-time stop-and-go traffic (basically idling for 1.5 hours with lights on).
My homedepot install has passed tech no problem thus far....

+1 on the odyssey 680. I fabricated an aluminum holddown plate so that its a direct bolt in. I use it during track season and then convert back for winter. I had one fail on me, so now I am on the 2nd. Good cold cranking amps but not much capacity. The car has to be easy to start to use one, as there's not much reserve.

I thought about this all ways for my 911SC earlier this year, and decided that since I still use my car on the street and to/from track event, I wanted a battery that would start. Friends with 680s have mostly good reviews, but as many here have said, need a jump start now and again.
I went with the Braille, but not the little one...I went with the 21 lb job with 1380CCA. It is still half the weight of the Optima Red Top (their weight is a minmium weight...real world is ~40 lbs), with superior performance. The car has sat for months at times, with no issues so far. Basically, it's a smaller, lighter battery with performance like a regular battery...exactly what I was looking for.
One thing to remember is that the battery should be up to the task, not just for starting the car, but for being part of the running system. If the alternator has to work too hard, it isn't good for the car.
