Spent the weekend at my home track (Barber) running time trials with NASA. On Sunday morning my muffler decided that it no longer wanted to be attached to the car, so instead of spending my time rigging up a solution I decided to run the straight pipe. Pretty annoying in the car but I did not get black flagged for noise
The car ran better than it ever has and I set two personal bests in the 3rd and 4th sessions of the day.
For a speed reference, I have my RPM light set to 6,800 rpm. So, when the light comes on in 3rd I'm at 86mph and in 4th at 117 mph. I've not pushed the car to this RPM before, instead I used to shift around 6,500rpm but shifting that early didn't really work at Barber (this was my first trip to Barber since installing the S2 transaxle; also running 225/45-15 tires; Hankooks, C51).
Video below if from the 3rd session of time trials - open passing, no pointby required.

nice work Tim, you made a lot of nice passes and if the Franken got passed, I missed it. The video was nice and long and you could actually hear the engine. the track looks great, lots of room...
best,
Donn C.

The Frankencar did not get passed in the last two sessions on Sunday and I had the fastest laps for both sessions

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the video, Tim. Although our 924/944/968 platforms are long in the tooth, you prove that when combined with very good driving skills they can still compete well today.

They finally posted Sunday's times on mylaps, I turned a 1:42.9 in the last session. That's not only my personal best, it's also a track record for TTB
(can you tell I'm excited?)

The 968 engine needs back pressure to develope mid-range tourque. Freeing the exhaust could help with high rev HP. Racing uses the engine from over 4k to redline.

Not on my car, adding pack pressure just takes HP and TQ away in a uniform fashion across the rpm range. There's no real change in the shape of the curve and certainly no large gain in TQ in the mid-range as everyone claims. Of course YMMV.
One of these days I'll find my disc from the dyno runs I did before going to Mid-O for NASA Nationals and post the info.
If anyone has dyno curves that show otherwise, please post away.
