Default Cab Top Question....

Nut on drivers side top motor came loose and the top stopped moving on the drivers side. Passenger side works fine. Loosened the passenger side so that I could manually close the top. Have tested the motors and both seem to be operational.
Question.... I've read that you must get the motors calibrated so that they are in the same position or you could cause damage to the top. How is this done? Is it a DIY thing or should I enlist the help of the Dealer or my bodyshop guy who works with a bunch of tops. Only kicker is that he's not that familiar with porsches.
Any help out there??

ok...got more information from the top problem. now the shop is telling me a different story. that there is only one motor and they are not sure why the top stopped moving on the drivers side. I guess I need to get the car back from them and figure out the real story. Note....non porsche shop has the car right now for some minor maintenance issues. Don't think I want them messin' with the top.

Jim,

The tops can be released from the motor drive by loosening two bolts. One on each side under a round plastic cap. If you have the owners manual this is discribed and there is a tool in the kit. If the gear box or cable on one side broke then you have a problem for sure ... but if the "Nut on drivers side top motor came loose" is what I am talking about they should have just tightened it back up. I think you are on the right track to take it to a specialist. If something is broken on one side - power operating the top can break the other side doubling your repair bill. Their action may have saved you $$$.
