Cup I's or II's?
Would it be better if I try to purchase cup I's or II's.
I plan on autocrossing them and I wanted a 17" wheel so I can fit Khumo Victoracers or Hoiser.
Unless you can fit racing tires on 16" wheels.
It looks like the cup II's are wayyy more common but which is better. (lighter)

Lord, neither Cup1 or Cup2 fronts are common. What seems to be common are 7 inch fronts which are from the 911 range. 968's came with 7.5 inch fronts and these are very rare. Maybe a couple of sets show up every yr, so I wouldn't call them common.

Cup IIs are lighter than cup Is, and both a sort of hard to find, even in 911 widths. If it's going to be for AX or DE then I'd say just pick up a set of 986/996 wheels (I think they are called carrera twist, not the turbo twist). I see sets on Craigslist fairly often, for $600-700. They're the cheapest type of 17" I usually see.

I sold a set of Cup I 17x7.5in fronts to a 968er in San Francisco to be used for his track car. He has seen much of the benefits of the extra 0.5in -- but has mentioned the cost due to the rarity of the said wheels. I kinda feel bad about that.

I recently picked up a set of Cup II replicas, ebay specials, that have interesting non-stock offsets - fronts are 7.5 x 17 et 52, and rears are 9 x 17 et 47. they came with some toasted victoracers so I was able to verify they fit ( that was an quite a test drive ), but really snug in the wheel wells, kind of like they have spacers built in...
anybody have any experience with a wheel like this ?
thanks,
Donn C.

The OEM Porsche Cup (II) wheels for the 968 are listed in the PET as:
Front 7.5 inch, 65 mm offset, Part #993 362 124 05
Back 9 inch, 55 mm offset, Part #993 362 128 00
Your aftermarket wheels have a lower offset which will push the wheels farther out from the hubs, filling out the wheel wells a little more. Tire Rack and some ebay merchants sell aftermarket wheels like what you have.
I like how the offsets of the aftermarket wheels make the wheels and tires look more aggressive on the car. However, as stated above, you gain some unsprung weight at the corners.
