Default battery

Is anyone using a lighter battery or a optima or a gel cell?

Optima Red Top Group 35 here...direct plug and play. Terminals are on the right, ie, correct/same side as OEM.

I plan on relocating my battery with an Odyessey lightweight gel battery. I will mount it in the passenger storage bin.

In my RX7 I mounted that battery in the glove box. They are very small and light weight.

IIRC an Optima redtop is about 36lbs. The Odyssey is 12lbs. Weight Reduction 101

I used the regular (cheaper) PC680 in my RX7 but it's a rarely driven race car. For a daily driver or high end car like the 968 I'd suggest the one I linked to above. More sturdy casing.

Is the Odyssey 680 for a dedicated track only or can it be used on a street car as well?

Jason I know your car is a track beast, but I second the question on the battery usage for a street car.

Second question is how to mount it securely?

Thanks,
Joel

I would think the Odessey 680 would be a tough choice for a street car...the battery is about the size of a traditional 9-volt battery you use for a toy!

I have a mounting strap that the folks at Paddock Performance fabricated for me.

Since I need something "similiar in size" as the OE battery per SCCA racing rules, I read this thread and was ready to go buy an Optima. Then I decide to weigh two batteries I have, an Interstate and a Champion and they both weigh 35lbs on my bathroom scale. The lowest number I've found online for the Optima is 33lbs.
Anyone have any other suggestions for a regular size but lighter weight battery?

It seems you have to watch the height on the 968. The oem size is about 1" shorter than most others. I am trying to find a lighter one that is similar in size as well.
