Unhappy Dead Fuel Pump (I think???)

Hi,

I think I have a dead fuel pump and I think it is the result of a clogged fuel filter.

I replaced the fuel filter last night in the middle of the Lowes parking lot where the 968 died. It was running fine when I pulled in and it started and ran for a few seconds and then died and will not restart. I removed the old filter and replaced with a new one...still did not start...that is why I now think it is the fuel pump. I think the filter has been clogged for some time...when I open my gas cap I hear a prolonged sucking or releasing of air. That started about two weeks ago. I meant to change the filter last weekend but got sidetracked.

Is there an easy way to determine if the fuel pump is working?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks,

D

Check clarks-garage. They have a write up on jumping the pins on the fuse box to make the fuel pump work.
Good luck.

Default Fuel Pump replaced

I replaced my fuel pump last night...it had 56k on it. The car runs great but...

I am still having a problem with excessive vacum in my fuel tank. Does anybody have a known cause for this. Is it a vent line that is clogged and if so where is it located.

Check your vacuum canaster, its under the driver's side fender cover. Chances are, its shot. Or like you said, it could be a crimped vacuum line.

Default Third Pump (DEAD)

OK..here is the story.

Original pump died approx 56k. (1st pump - old)

New filter and pump installed (correctly) (2nd pump - new)

2nd pump DEAD

New pump installed (by my mechanic) (3rd pump - new)

3rd pump DEAD

No trash seen in tank or gas.

Any other ideas...PLEASE.

Need specs on pump voltage supply with engine running.

Thanks

I have also experienced a problem where the connector to the fuel tank had corrosion and it was shorting. Have your mechanic to see if you actually get juice when you jumper to make the fuel pump run. Test is before and after the connector. The connector sits right by the transaxle crossmember.
Good luck.
