Question 968 to 993/996 headlight conversion

I've seen pics somewhere that looked like a really clean conversion. Anyone have information on it (on the verge of buying a 968 project car). Chris

Just stole this from Harvey's thread. I hope he doesn't mind.
I think you mean this...

I bought some 993 headlights for the conversion but it would require cutting out a section of the front fender supports that just did not make me feel that great about doing it so I sold them. The lights assemblies are rather long and if you have an accident then any and all custom work would have to be redone (cha-ching) and the customization could cause other problems if another fender has to be refitted on a customized damaged support. Just my 1 cent.

Nice to see my car here. I own that 1993 Purple 968. If you have questions let me know.

Do you have any before, during and after conversion pictures that you can share?

There have been a few attempts by others to re-create this - with varying degrees of success in the area of fit/finish.

I may have some old pix but would have to search quite a bit so don’t hold out hope for those. I certainly could take current pix. Fit and finish was pretty good. Not perfect. I’ve had to look hard over the years to find someone willing to make improvements. By the way…, the gull wing doors are long gone.

The car is going through a partial mechanical restoration now. Body and paint are still nice and the car stills draws a lot of positive attention.

Are your headlights aimed correctly and cast good light on the road?

I'd think everyone would be interested in any pix of the current setup. As the original headlights become harder to find and the motors for the pop-up mechanism die off over time, there may well be more looking at this conversion.

Wow. I'm surprised to learn people are still interested in the 968 and headlight conversions. Pix will show up soon - in the meantime here is one from 10 years ago! Car is still in the shop getting an overhaul. It's been there for a few months.., I was thinking the service would be in preparation of a sale but the work has been progressing so nicely, now I'm really excited to get it back. FYI, because of this thread, we are changing the bulbs to LEDs to help with the light on the road. I'm sure this will add a few weeks to the plan - unless I show up with bulbs in hand.

I've always admired that purple car with the 993 headlights. It's really cool that you're here now to talk about it.
