I have only seen 1 sunroof delete 968 for sale in the last 10 or so years in the States! That was the speed yellow M030 highly optioned car that had super low miles! On a side note I live in Northern, CA and have only seen 2 951's with sunroof delete for sale here, and 1 '84 white 944 that was pretty clean body and interior wise but was donated to a Pick and Pull junk yard! I was so amazed I could hardly control myself here was a pretty nice complete sunroof delete optioned car less rims sitting in a you pick yard for scrap. I didnt have the time to buy it since it was about a year ago but man I know that car got crushed after a few weeks when eventually somebody got to the engine and transaxle. What a shame though huh? I was tempted to buy it and turn it into a later style 951 or S2 bodied race car! I couldnt help but wonder who originally bought that car or was it just on the lot somewher by pure chance and someone who had no idea bought it? Or the idiot who donated it since he clearly had no clue as to what it was worth sitting in his driveway! I did pull the headliner with bows and clips since it was very clean, the gut working at the front told me I could have the whole car for around $700 - $900 if I remember right but it would carry a salvaged title so that runed it for me!

Most, if not all, S/R delete were 968 CS models, of which there are very few in North America. The 944/968 steel roof would be the same part I'd think. There is also a f/g roof that fits both, 944 & 968.
Cutting off & rewelding the top is a routine practice in custom cage fabrication and provides some increased headroom as the re-attached roof will sit on top of the cage and be welded to the cage (as well as the regular pillars). So, if you're having a welded-in cage installed, that would be the logical time to consider cutting the top re-attaching or replacing the roof.

I'd imagine a good body guy could make a patch panel, and a good upholstery guy could make a factory looking headliner for less than the cost of a factory Porsche replacement panel.

944 503 912 02 is the number for the plain roof panel.
The workshop manual describes well how to remove and replace it. You'll need access to a pinch welder. Having the roof off gives incredible access to allow complete welding of the cage.
If I recall, I didn't pay shipping, but waited for the panel to come on a routine shipment from Germany to my dealer (Brumos).

Still working on the car but inching (cm'ing) closer and closer. I had work to do in the shop in order to get work done on the car. But, after wing mounts are complete the shell should be ready to dip and powdercoat. So, maybe it will be a complete roller this time next year. I guess I just have too many irons in the fire!

I can't put my hands on the receipt for the roof panel, but I don't recall it being overpriced (that must be interpreted in light of the overall cost of building a race car). All I know is I could wait for the part and the shipping wasn't charged to me.
