Default Stereo Upgrade???

Trying to figure out how I'm going to get some better sound in the 968 Cab. Anyone figured out how to get a couple small subs behind the seats? I think adding some 6x9' to the small deck in the back, installing them into the storage compartments will definitely help. But it sure would be nice to add some bass to fill it out and get everything audible at 70mph with the top down.

i did, but it wasn't simple - works great - dual 8" drivers in sealed .35 cu ft enclosures

i may duplicate them once i make a mold for the enclosure i made, but that is a ways off still

My cars previous owner apparently put some speaker in the back deck. When I got the car there were no speakers, just two holes covered with a grill that wasn't screwed down. So I didn't have much of an option, I decided to open the holes a little more and put two 8" subs in there. It will not win any bass competition, but it sounds good enough for me, I don;t even turn it up all the way. I also replaced the front mids in the doors, and the speakers in the back pillar. I went with the Alpine 9857 since it has the bio lite display which works decently in the sun when the tops down.

I put an 8" sub in one of the cubbies behind the passenger rear wheel. There is a company that makes a box that will fit right in. I decided to make a custom fiberglass box instead of paying for someone elses. I mounted the amp on a board and secured that to the spare tire. You could easily do an 8" on each side to get more bass. Of course this is in my Coupe, so you wouldn't get as much bass w/ the Cab from back there.

yeah - tried that - nowhere near enough in a cab - that, and the fact that it was impossible to get the storage boxes airtight, and therefore esentially unable to reproduce anything below about 70hz, is exactly what put me onto the sub project in the first place

The previous owner of my car added some 6x9's in my cab. I'm going to change the head unit though b/c it seems to be messing up. The set up sounds nice with the top down you can definitely hear it well while on the interstate. I'll try to post some pics later.

Jim,

I have the Kenwood slim mount powered subs - one behind each seat and wired in such a way that they simply act as bass drivers to complement the rear 4x6 as the mid and tweet. I used a passive crossover between the Kenwoods and the new Polk 4x6 plate speakers installed in the factory location. Sounds very decent even with the top down, was fairly easy as stereo installs go, and isn't crazy expensive.
